My Question or Issue

Bug reproduction steps:

1) Connect both machines to the same WiFi network

2) Log into Family account 1 on Macbook

3) Log into Family account 2 on PC

4) On Macbook, try to find PC in spotify connect devices menu

Problem: PC is not present in the menu

Expectation: PC is present in the menu

If I attempt the same thing, but log into the same account on both devices, it works just fine. It seems like it's somehow a limitation of Spotify Connect not working across accounts on the same family plan.

We expect this to work, because the PC is a media center device which streams audio to our in-home speaker system. Since we cannot play music to it without being logged into the account it is using, it's very frustrating to constantly log in and out between accounts on different devices. Users should be able to opt-in to use spotify connect across two accounts on the same family plan.

Hey there @andrew__,

Thanks for getting in touch with us and welcome to the Community. We're happy to shed some light on the situation.

For now it is possible to use the Connect feature only with one account between different devices so this behavior is to be expected.

As a workaround you can give these steps a go and try the group session option. That way everyone invited can decide what song or playlist is going to be played.

You can also check out these steps and submit your idea so it can reach out to more users. Keep in mind that the higher the number of votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for it to be implemented.

Hope this was helpful for you. If you have questions, you know where to find us.

What does different devices mean here? There is only one device (Windows machine) that I want to connect to from one other device (Mac OS X) and play music. What does spotify connect do if I can't use it to connect one machine to one other machine?

Also, there is no "start a group session" button available.

Hey @andrew__,

Thanks for your reply, we're happy to clarify.

With Connect you still can control Spotify on another device, however the you must be logged in to the same account. This means that if you are logged on your Windows device in to your own personal account, the same account must be logged in on the Macbook for Connect to work. You won't be able to control the app on the Macbook if one of the other members of the Premium Family plan is currently logged in to their account there.

As to the Group session, note that this feature is only available for Premium users on mobile and tablet. If you don't see it there, we recommend that you do a clean reinstall by following these steps. If that doesn't fix things, you can post a screenshot of what you are seeing on the app. Just be sure to hide any personal/sensitive information.

Hope this shines a bit of light on the matter. We'll be here if you have any other questions.

Have a great day!
