Individual premium account holder not eligible for free family trial. Why?

Individual premium account holder not eligible for free family trial. Why?

I have an individual premium account and have received both a notification in the app and an email offering me a free two month trial for family premium, which I would like to try. However, when I click through I get a message stating that I am not eligible. A. Why not? B. If I'm not eligible, why am I getting spammed with adds for a trial I cannot access?

Hey there,

Thanks for reaching out.

The offer you're talking about is likely only for users who haven't tried Premium before. If you're getting an error message when trying to claim the offer, it means that you're, unfortunately, not eligible.

Most of the time the reason for not being eligible is one of the following:

  • You've already had Premium on the account you're trying to claim the offer on (this includes being a member of a Premium Duo/Family plan)
  • The payment method you're using has been used for Spotify in the past

Lastly, it's possible that you see such offers on Spotify's home page when you're not logged in because the site can't track if you've had a subscriptions before. Sorry if that has caused any confusion!

I hope this clears things up 🙂

No. I'm not seeing offers on a home page. I am being emailed directly. Spamming me is bad enough, but spamming me with a "bait and switch" is ridiculous. You don't want to offer long term customers the deals you offer newbies, fine (it's not fine, actually, it's stupid), but to direct market to me with a product you know is not available to me is unethical. Really poor.
