My boyfriend and his kids are moving in

My Question or Issue

My new partner and his 2 teenagers are moving in soon. He already has a spotify family account where he takes up 3 slots (himself and the 2 kids).

I also have a spotify family account where 4 slots are taken: my 2 kids, myself and my ex-husband. I will be removing my ex from my account.

My new partner and I would like to have 1 joined family account for ourselves and our kids. We agreed that I would keep my account, remove my ex, and add him and his kids.

What is the best sequence of getting this done? Is the below the best way of going about this?

1. I remove my ex from my account

2. Simultaneously, my new partner removes his 2 kids from his family account.

3. I then add his 2 kids to my family plan.

4. My partner then cancels his family subscription (would this move him to a free account??)

5. Once he's on a free account, I can add him to my family account as well.

One major concern of ours is that my new partner, his kids or my ex would lose any of the information stored in their accounts, such as playlists that were created, due temporarily being moved to a free account or the switch of plans. Can anyone confirm that this won't happen?

Thank you!

Hey @Jozefien_v,

Thanks for getting in touch!

Your planning is spot on, so there’s not much to add. However, it’s important to note that his kids can only join the Premium Family plan if they haven’t previously been part of more than one Premium Family or Duo plan. While this situation is unlikely, I wanted to bring it up to be on the safe side.

Additionally, many users mistakenly believe that their library, playlists, and preferences are tied to their subscription.

In fact, these features are preserved even if someone switches to the free plan. Rest assured, they won’t lose any of their content, no matter which plan they choose.

I hope this clears things up 🙂
