Was trying to switch from premium to student discount. I registered my account in Hong Kong but I am currently studying in the US, and when I was looking for my school after I put in the credit card details, I was unable to locate the name of my school. I left the page and put in the credit card details again give it another try, but I still couldn't find my school's name. Then I received notification that the card has been charged HKD 29 twice, but I have yet to go through sheerID, and on my account page it still says I will be charged HKD 58 next month, instead of the student price of HKD 29.
Please help check why there is a double charge and how can I switch to student price successfully. Thanks!
Hey @ST_TYC,
If Spotify is unable to verify your student I.D, you won’t be eligible to claim the student discount. In this instance, any charges will show on your statement as ‘pending’. This means your bank has put a temporary authorization on the funds, but no money has actually been taken.
Once the bank confirms your student I.D failed to verify successfully, the money will reappear on your statement. This can take up to 48 hours, depending on your bank. You can reach out to them for more information about any pending payments.
Also, you can find some more info about how you can get the Student Discount when studying abroad at https://support.spotify.com/account_payment_help/student_discount/student-discount/.
Thank you for the note about the charges being pending for now!
I would like to further ask how can I proceed to the student verification without putting in credit card info for a third time? Thanks!
If your school isn't on the list, you can request it to be added to the list at https://verify.sheerid.com/spotify-international-request/.
There's no set response time for this request form, so you may or may not hear back soon.
Until your school has been added to the list, you, unfortunately, won't be able to claim the Student Discount.
My school is probably on the list, but a more immediate probelm is that the bank has already put a temporary authorization on funds equal to charging me the student price twice, and I don't know how to get back to the page where I can verify my student idenficiation without going through the credit card form and having them charge me for a third time...
Unfortunately, the only way to get back to that page is to start the process all over again at https://spotify.com/student. You won't be able to get there without re-entering your payment method.
It should also be noted that they aren't actually charging you - It's just a pending charge and it disappears a few days later if the transaction doesn't successfully complete.
