My Question or Issue
Hello!
I have had premium student since mars 2020 and I paid 49sek for it varje month but then this month mars 2021 the premium student just changed to regular premium by itself that I had to pay 109sek for it. I had automatic payment by PayPal so when I saw how much my money was gone I was super confused. Why does it changes when I haven't done anything?! Is this normal which I guess not?!
I'm a broke student so I'm not really happy with this.
I have attached a file of proof from my paypal below:
Hey @ArmyXMoa0502,
Thanks for getting in touch with us and welcome to the Community 🙂
It looks like your student discount may have expired. Premium Student is valid for up to 12 months from the date you subscribed.
You can head here to renew it. After you've been verified by SheerID, you should receive an email with a link for activation. You can click on it to activate the offer. Once you've renewed the student discount, you'll get the discounted rate for another 12 months.
Hope this was helpful for you. If you have more questions, we are here for you.
Hey @tammyado,
Thanks for reaching out to us 🙂
If you want to activate the student discount, you can click here and follow the steps.
If you've already been verified by SheerID you should have received an email with an activation link. You can click on it to activate the student discount. The last step will be to update your payment details with these steps.
Tip: Keep in mind that the link is valid for 7 days.
Hope this helps. We'll be right here if you have any questions.
Hi @tammyado,
Thanks for your reply.
If you've already sent the documents that support that you're a still student, keep in mind that the verification process can take a few days. We suggest keeping an eye on your inbox for SheerID's confirmation email, including the Spam folder.
In case you need further help, we'd recommend reaching out to SheerID following these steps.
We'll be here if anything else comes up.
Cheers!
Hi again @tammyado,
Thanks for getting back to us.
Since the verification is on SheerID's side, we'd recommend reaching out to them following the previously mentioned steps so they can take a deeper look at this.
Keep us posted on how that goes.
I am adding onto this because of a similar issue. With no warning, inside of the app or by email, my account was charged for the regular plan and I changed it back to student but the app still shows regular premium. It is kind of ridiculous that the charge comes through with no warning that the verification is about to conclude. Please do not respond saying that all student accounts mist be reverified every 12 months, but beyond just good business practices I feel that it would probably nice to get an email saying that i should reverify my student status, otherwise it just feels scammy. I can try again maybe? But i fully verified and selected student and it says regular in the app.
Hey there @alextgarbuz,
Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.
We really appreciate you sharing with us your thoughts. It seems your discount has expired and that is why you started to be charged for Premium Individual. As you mentioned above, the student discount is valid for 12 months, and once it runs out, you go back to paying the standard monthly price.
We send you an email to let you know when your discount is about to end, so we encourage you to check your junk/spam folder or that you don't have our emails blocked.
Now, as you mentioned you already re-verified your student status, you’ll be charged accordingly on the day that the credit for the Premium Individual plan runs out. Remember that your plan will be updated on your next billing schedule, so it's expected that you see the Premium Individual for now under your account page.
Nonetheless, if you're not sure if the discount got activated or if you'd like further info, the best way to go would be to get in touch with us through our private channels, so we can help you check your account more thoroughly. You can find out how to contact us here.
Hope this clears things up. If you have any questions or need a hand with anything else, we're always a post away.
**bleep** checked all of my email's folders, including spam and did not receive an email about the verification ending nor do I have Spotify's emails blocked. I reverified and was able to switch to the Premium Student plan. Would I be able to get a refund for the Premium Individual plan that was charged or at least a reduction in the charge? It only went through today and the plan was switched today.

My Question or Issue
Spotify premium keeps going from Spotify student to Spotify regular and charging me 11.99 instead of 5 99
Hi! I can understand why that would be upsetting, especially when the price more than doubles without warning.
What usually causes this is the annual student re-verification. Spotify requires student status to be re-verified every 12 months. If that re-verification isn’t completed in time, the plan automatically switches from Premium Student to regular Premium at the standard price, even if you didn’t change anything yourself and even if autopay is enabled.
Because the payment already went through via PayPal, the best next step is to contact Spotify Support as soon as possible. In many cases, if you re-verify your student status right away, support can switch you back to Premium Student and sometimes refund the price difference for that billing cycle.
Going forward, it helps to keep an eye out for re-verification emails from Spotify or SheerID around the yearly mark so this doesn’t happen again.
I hope they’re able to sort it out quickly and get you back on the student rate.
