Student Discount Cancelled without notion after only three months

Student Discount Cancelled without notion after only three months

I just got notified by PayPal that my spotify subscription went back to 9,99€ after only 3 months at 4,99€. Because of this, I would like a refund for the extra money past month, as well as an automatic continuation of my student plan.

Also I did not receive any sort of notification from the sides of Spotify regarding the change in my payment plan (yes, I checked the spam folder). Is this even legal?

I have got the same issue! Verified my student account two months ago, and suddenly it changed without any information given to the regular plan for 10€ a month.

Hi there folks,

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

If your Student subscription has been changed to an Individual one, it means your Student subscription has expired and needs a renewal. The Student subscription should be renewed every 12 months for up to 4 years in total. Here is how to do that.

If you've already paid, you won't be charged again when switching from Premium individual to the Student discount.

Lastly, you can check our refund policy here

Hope this helps.

Hey Alex,

thank you for your reply but sadly this does not help. As I clearly stated above I renewed my student subscription three months ago.

Furthermore, changing payment plans without even giving some sort of notification beforehand is an extremely shady business strategy in my opinion.

Cheers

Hi there @Shocktrap,

Thanks for the reply.

As I've mentioned above, the student discount token lasts for 12 months since the day you activate it on your account. You can check on your account page if you currently have one active.

A month before the discount expires, you should've gotten a notification email on the email address linked to your account. Note that the email might be in the spam/ junk folder if you've previously marked any email from Spotify as spam.

If you've used the Student discount less than 4 years, you can still apply for one. After the discount is re-activated all you need to do is update your payment method in order for the new monthly subscription price to become active.

Cheers.

Hi Alex,

I'm not sure if it is shown somewhere but I managed to reactivate my student discount without problems.

However, the problem still remains that PayPal clearly shows me that I paid 10€ for spotify before september, then 5€ until december and 10€ again for this month.

I also triple checked my email inbox including spam folder and I did not receive a notification of any sorts, except the payment information from PayPal.

Furthermore, it looks to me like my discount is only activated starting next month which means I would have to pay the regular price for two months total.

And I'm very very sorry but I don't accept that I should pay these 10€ extra.

Attached is a screenshot of my spotify receipt.

Cheers

Hi @Shocktrap,

I understand your frustration with what has happened and that you don't feel it's fair being charged the full price.

I'd recommend turning on all Spotify notifications from your account page, not to miss any future notifications via email in the future.

In my initial post you'll also find a link to Spotify's refund policy where you can read how you can get a refund.

Take care.
