Sometimes data in your browser can cause such issues with activating the student discount. An easy way to avoid this is using a private or incognito browser window. This page has all the instructions on how to open one.
A good idea would also be to try a different browser or another device if that's an option.

Just to make sure that we're on the same page - a different device yielded the same result? If that's the case, we recommend that you also try activating the subscription using a different payment method.
If that doesn't fix things, screenshots of the error and your account page would help us out a lot to get to the bottom of this. You can use the Insert Photos option in the post editor to do this.
Tip: Make sure the screenshot doesn’t show any sensitive info such as payment or personal data.
