Let's Have A Genre Listening Party

Let's Have A Genre Listening Party

PLEASE READ THE FULL POST, BEFORE REPLYING, AND DO NOT POST PLAYLISTS OR SONGS, HERE.

I just found out the group session feature, and thought it would be cool to do that with people in the community. I have an idea for a similar party, as well, but I'll mention that, later.

What night is good for those that want to join?

Let's start off with one genre, right now, then go to another. Keep in mind that I only want to have genres that I like, but if anyone likes genres outside of what I like, I encourage you to take my idea and start parties for those genres as well. This might be good for artists, if they start their own, like mini concerts. They could join with other artists, inviting people to their concert parties. I don't want this to be an artist promotion party. Maybe, we will invite some artists, to play their songs, occasionally, at some point, but I just want to figure this out, first. Also, try to keep it as clean as possible (definitely no sexual language).

Here's what I like.

Rock (Today's, classic, and earlier)

Metal (Today's and classic)

Country (Any years, No Hip Hop or alternative style)

Some that I'm not as familiar with, like

Celtic and "New Age" (Ex., Enya, Kitaro, Yanni)

and

Electronic (Techno (Ex.,Robert Miles), Trance...)

I think it would be cool to play it on your TV., if you have one. This will be a chance for us to listen to music that we like, while discovering songs that we don't know that are of the same genres.

I understand that there are also people that are trying to get introduced to new genres.

While I don't want music played from outside genres, maybe people could be invited to for just the listening aspect. We don't want people taking advantage of invitations and putting in random genres, though. I put all these instructions, because sometimes people have misused my posts, and I want people to hear what they expect to.

Cool deal, Loneliest_Cabin

I definitely plan to do those genres, since I like them. I will post it, here, when I do, so you should be notified.

Hi, rossi1911
Yes. I'll explain it. It allows you to invite others (5 right now) to listen to what you are listening to, in real time. The others can also play songs. It's basically a virtual room, for music, minus the chatting, although TreyAnastasion on here have been chatting on Google Hangouts, while we are in a group session.

You can find the group session feature under the device section (for casting). You can send invitations with either a link or code that's similar to the ones for sharing playlists, songs, and albums.
I've posted a couple ideas about this feature. It'd be cool, if you would vote for it.
I hope this helps. Let me know, if I can help any further.

Hi @MadmanOnWheels,

Thank you again for letting me join the Group Session on Friday!

I was wondering if you see Private Message notifications when using an incognito window, or when you use a different web browser?

Let me know how it goes, and have a good day!

Hey,
Of course; I was glad for you to join. It was really cool listening to music and chatting about it.
I get see the numbers pop up for notifications (How they're labeled on here), but I don't get any kind of notification differentiation between them and the messages. The only way that I know if I got messages is through pieces of e-mail. I use Chrome, and I haven't tried going to the site on an incognito window or different browser. I also, sometimes, open it directly from the e-mail messages.
Thanks, and I hope you are/do, too.

Hey @MadmanOnWheels

Hope you're well.

Can you send me a screenshot of what you're referring to exactly? I'd love to take a look.

Thanks!

Hey, Billy-J

Sure. I can do that. What is it that you're asking for a screenshot of, though?

Hey, everyone

TreyAnastasio, on here brought up an idea, and I had been thinking about it, too.

Instead of the 1st Listening Party being an 80s Rock theme, I will host a Halloween theme, but still a little specific. I'll keep it as Rock and Metal from the 80s, 90s, and the 2000s (today) that can be related to Halloween, by lyrics or sound. I might consider including the 50s, 60s, and 70s, but I'm not sure, because there is so much music in the other eras, and it might also complicate things.

Who would like to join?

I only have 4 slots, because I have one person confirmed. I know that there has been some interest in this 1st listening party, but I'm not sure, now, because the theme is different. Let me know.

I will still be having a corresponding chat session, on Google Hangouts. You're welcome to it.

Count me IN!

Hi @MadmanOnWheels,

I would like to attend this Halloween-themed rock and metal Listening Party as well; it sounds like fun!

Regarding Spotify Community PM notifications, can you send a screenshot of how the Community website appears to you when you try viewing notifications on your device?

I hope you're having a good day!

Hey,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I plan on starting the "Rock N' Metal Halloween Listening Party", at 6:30 or 7:00, this evening (Central Daylight Time/Central Standard Time).

It would be good to get confirmation about joining. Also, there will be a coinciding Chat Session, on Google Hangouts. You don't have to join, but it will make it that much more organized (for adding songs) and fun. Send a message to me, if you're interested in that part. TreyAnastasio and I already tested the group session feature, while on Google Hangouts. It definitely helped to be able to find out, if a song was one that he added or one from my queue (that I didn't necessarily intend to play).

Update:

I just found out that this feature is only for Premium Users, and it can only be played on (or at least initiated from) mobile devices.

I'm interested with this group session. Can you invite me to Google Hangouts so we can discuss about this?

Hey, rossi1911

Sure. Send a private message to me.

@AdamDamon Thanks for the invite! 🙂

Who would be interested in having a listening party for the new AC/DC album?

I know that it's been out for about 3 weeks, but it's still very mew, and I'm sure that I'm not the only one that hasn't got around to listening to it, yet.

I'll also be holding a chat session, as part of it. Because of an incident in the past that was caused by a lack of communication, whoever wants to join the party would also need to join the chat session.

If you're interested, let me know here. Once we get a date and time set, send a private message to me, about joining the chat session.

Sure, I'm down for a listening party. I'll be busy with holiday festivities next week, but I'm open any time after that.

Cool, Hubo

As soon as we get more people reply about their interest, we can move to the next step, which is finding out availability. Depending on how many people are interested, we may need to break the people into groups, and have more than one session, based on availability. At that point, people will need to send a private message to me, about joining the chat, to join the session.
