Hey Community! It's time again for the "Question of the Week" 🙂
This week's question:
What is your favorite artist or band?
You can answer with just 1 or you can choose up to 3 favorite artists or bands.
🎵 Also, let us know one of your favorite songs from each artist or band.
Post your answer below to be part of the conversation.
You can view the previous Question of the Week threads by going here
It's really hard to pick just 3 since I like so many artists.
Here are my favorite 3 artists right now and my favorite song from them:
Artist: Chelsea Cutler
Song: How To Be Human
Artist: Boy In Space
Artist: Quinn XCII
Song: Notice Me
Yes, Pink Floyd, Metallica.
In that order 🙂
That is such a tough question to answer @MattSuda, how long did it take you to choose? 😄
Hmm 🤔 I think I'll go with the following:
@Dinofansem I recently started listening to Metallica, great pick!!
PS. I also see that you're new here ✨ Welcome to the Community, good to have you with us!
Great question, @MattSuda!
My favorite band is Phish. I discovered their music in my first year of college (about 13 years ago), and have been listening to them fairly often since then. I enjoy their eclectic blend of musical styles, and Phish is by far the band that I’ve seen live in concert the most times. They tend to play improvised jams during live performances, and have a vast repertoire of songs; so I find it fun to go to a Phish concert, not knowing what each set will be like.
As for one of my favorite songs of theirs, I will share this “Bathtub Gin” from their first show at The Clifford Ball festival in 1996 (which was released as a DVD box set in 2009, and added to Spotify today). I think it’s a solid jam and one of my favorite performances of “Bathtub Gin” that I’ve heard, so I was glad to add it and a few other tracks from this recording to my Spotify library today:
As for my 2nd and 3rd favorite bands, I’d say that Elder and King Buffalo are tied. I discovered both of these bands more recently than Phish, but have been listening to them quite often throughout the past few years. Also, I coincidentally have 28 songs by each of these two bands saved to my Liked Songs on Spotify.
I admire Elder’s versatile, “genre-pushing” approach to music, which has seen their albums range in musical style from stoner/doom metal to psychedelic rock to progressive rock. The title track from Elder’s Dead Roots Stirring album (2011) is perhaps my favorite song of theirs:
Like Elder, I find King Buffalo’s music to be quite impressive in that the band combines elements of different genres (such as stoner rock, psychedelic rock, and heavy blues) into their own unique sound. Since King Buffalo’s Acheron album was released last year, I’ve been listening to the title track often, and it has become one of my favorite songs of theirs:
Ed Sheeran, Mariah Carey and Taylor Swift.
Well this is a nice post, I'll be stating my favorite artists in no particular order.
First up,Twenty One Pilots- I guess I just liked the fact that their music was vibe worthy whilst at the same time, possessing meaning. I started listening about 7 years ago when "Stressed out" was released,I think
But today and probably forever,my favorite song is "My blood"
It's reminiscent of the relationship I would have liked to share with so many people in my life. At this point I'm used to it but I was always a lonely child. It can bring me to tears sometimes 💀
I love this woman 😭❤️
Sometimes I laugh because I think it means I'm really a nerd.
But her music just screams Regal,Royal like I totally understand why I only have one friend who also listens to her. And she started singing all those masterpieces from a really young age ✨. My favorite song is "Bravado" .
Lastly (not least, idk?) Kanye West- That man is a musical genius 😮❤️. He has a pretty impressive catalogue and he's a peculiar individual which tends to make him cool at some things.i can't even think of a single song,he has so many that I enjoyed.
I'll settle for "Jesus Walks". It had a way of uplifting me at times 🖤
Taylor Swift - Daylight
Lorde - Buzzcut Season
All Time Low - Therapy
"Sebasty is just an undercover Amon Tobin" - conspiracy theory presented by a fellow Star named Leo. : )
So yes, Amon Tobin. I'm not eloquent enough of a writer to say how much I love this man and his music.
He has recently expanded his discography with new aliases, meaning there is so much more music to listen to. Each alias represents a different side of Amon's and I'm especially fond of Figueroa and Stone Giants, as well as everything he releases as Amon Tobin.
I don't feel that he has released anything I do not like, there are just things I like a bit less.
Lately I've been in need of soothing sounds and Stone Giants has a song that fits just perfectly - it's a caressing hug:
I have two spots left, so um..
Ivy Lab! Really very good halftime bass music, and when their song hits me, it hits me like almost nothing else. This song for example is just an audio drug of smoothness:
And... I'm just going to leave that third spot open. Things change a lot in here, and I'm pretty sure it'll be filled by Subp Yao and his new album as soon as it drops. Recently it was held by Yunis (Into Dust) and Traka (Maktub).
Avi Kaplan has my full attention with his solo work. His voice is magnificent and I absolutely love his songwriting. It's so thought provoking and has a cinematic feel to it. https://open.spotify.com/track/4WlxchxKQJ9y0Vlqaz8h66?si=1mbBoKTWQ3e-GQCnMy_p5Q&utm_source=copy-link
WOOF! What a difficult topic, one that's ever-changing...though here's a few movers around the top ten for me.
1) Daft Punk - This duo is/was/are (WHERE ARE YOU, YOU ELUSIVE ROBOTS), incredible. Masters of samples and of their own creative frontiers with funky house beats in their early days to their larger than life live shows and album of the rear with Random Access Memory, they top my charts.
I believe their true shine was in their live performances, but this gem will suffice as jam I'll never forget:
2) Danger Mouse - Known as an auter of the music industry, this guy has such a major influence in music that I can't take him out of the conversation. He's a producer of many well known albums that include Demon Days by Gorillaz (Feel Good, Inc.), Broken Bells with James Mercer (The High Road), and many others. He's also a solo artist, so I suppose I have to add a song from that realm:
3) Fleetwood Mac - Stevie Nix. What a force! I think her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame TWICE speaks enough for why she/Fleetwood Mac is on this list for me. "Dreams" is an obvious song to include here, but here's a less known easy listen. "Sara", would have been the name of Stevies girl if she ever had one.
Preface: will likely have changed before I’m done writing this. That said…
Electric Light Orchestra
Hmmm, this is hard, but I've gotta go with CHVRCHES.
Their music for me is always a great pick-me-up, and they're probably the least skipped artist in my library. I can always find myself singing along to their music, even on a bad day.
I even made a playlist of my CHVRCHES favorites, inside my Artists Favorites folder.
My favorite song is either Never Ending Circles, Clearest Blue, or Bury It.
Thanks, Forza Horizon, for introducing me to this amazing band.
My current favorite artist is SEPTUM.
I like his track, **bleep** a lot.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game…
