Spotify no longer accepting ICE recruiting ads

I am back on Spotify Premium now that Spotify no longer advertises for ICE. Took awhile!!! But boycotts work.

Good to hear. I'm a bit slow and only heard about this now! I couldn't believe a Swedish company would do this kind of thing. I've paid family Premium for months while this was going on, including playing my wedding playlist 😭 Still wondering whether I should cancel anyway just because they did participate in this and it took a long time for them to stop. Not sure of good alternatives though. Have they given any kind of statement on this?

Unfortunately, it wasn't the boycott. The contract for the ads ended, so they stopped playing on all platforms with that contract (YouTube, Reddit, etc). They didn't suddenly have a change of heart; they just no longer had to play it.

I switched over to Tidal. Overall, a better company. While they have less functionality than Spotify, they have much better company practices, like paying the artists significantly more and not playing ICE ads. Might be worth looking into! It's hard to not have some of the functionality at first, but you realize how quickly you can work around those issues. There are several others out there, but Pandora and Spotify both are confirmed to have run ICE ads. Keep speaking with your wallet!

Thank you for the suggestion. I got online to figure out which service to join after cancelling Spotify. Their business practices have bothered me for years, but I managed to look the other way. No longer.
