Newbie wonders if there is a SIMPLE way to star a song, etc.

It seems remarkable that there is not a star symbol next to each track.  

Extremely UN-user friendly to have to right click and choose.

The 'Starred' system is being phased out: it basically just works like a normal playlist now. It's been replaced by 'Your Music': when you click the + symbol next to the song title, it adds it to Your Music, and you can view the 'Songs' tab much like the Starred playlist.
