Spotify on mobile unreliably syncing from PC progress

I am having an issue wherein if I go to my PC I can immediately resume what I am playing on my Android phone. If I then choose some different music on my PC, and listen to a few songs, then go back to my phone, the progress bar and the Now Playing remain on whatever I was listening to BEFORE I took control on my PC, which is really annoying.

The only semi-reliable way to fix this is to, on my phone, open up devices, choose my PC (this doesn't have any effect) and then the app sort of updates and it continues playing on my phone, but where I left off. I can also use my PC to say, play on my phone, but this isn't always desirable - I don't want to do this every time I leave my desk.

The PC app syncs IMMEDIATELY when opened to whatever was on my phone - why the **bleep** can't the app do the same when opened? Is it my battery optimisation settings or something? Or are other people seeing this as well?
