Username and Displayed name are different?

Just a bit confused really. The name displayed in the Spotify app, both windows and mobile, says my name is the name I chose, "Barbarism", but for whatever reason, my spotify username, and the name that people use to find my playlists (tested and confirmed earlier this year) is a long string of text.

I'm aware that theres no way to change your spotify Username, but i definitely signed up to this account with the name "Barbarism". Does this happen all the time, or is it not meant to happen?

Thanks

Hey @Barbarism,

Thanks for reaching out.

As Spotify looks to improve the overall experience, they’re now automatically generating usernames, hence the random letters and numbers.

You don’t need to remember this to log in. You can access your account with your email address and password.

During signup, you were able to personalize your account by creating a profile name that’s displayed in the app. There are no limitations to a profile name, so you were able to choose any name you like 🙂

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey there @Barbarism,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community!

As we look to improve the overall Spotify experience, we’re now automatically generating usernames, hence the random numbers and letters you're seeing as your username in your account page.

You don’t need to remember this to log in. You can log in with just your password and the email address associated with your account.

However, during sign up, you can personalize your account as you did by creating a profile name that’s displayed in the app instead of the random letter-number combination.

Please note that it's not possible to log in with this display name.

Further, keep in mind that if the displayed name you choose is common, it might be faster for your friends to find your account with your username instead.

If you'd like more info on usernames, you can head here

Hope this helps clarify things!

/K

Hello,
I've been using Spotify for some years now. My Username is Spottimus.
I hadn't used my Spotify App on my PC for sometime... maybe 6 moths or so
I loaded it a little while ago and low and behold my Spottimus Username has been replaced with my real name.
1) How did this happen?

2) Has Spotify been hacked in the last year?
Regards,
Spottimus

Your name on spotify is different from your username, like most other social media platforms eg. Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter. You can do this simply by changing your name or your username (if it is avaliable.)

Hope this helped

Hey there @Spottimus,

Thanks for reaching out in the Community about this!

It sounds like you connected your Facebook profile to your Spotify-created account.

If you'd like not to see your Facebook profile name displayed instead of your chosen username, you can disconnect Facebook from your Spotify account following the steps here.

Alternatively, you can opt out of Spotify processing your Facebook data here. Keep in mind that this might result in some changes in your Spotify account, for example you might be having troubles finding your Facebook friends on Spotify.

Further, note that it might take up to 48 hours for the changes to take effect on your account.

Hope this helps clarify things! Don't hesitate to let us know if there's anything else we can help with.

Have a lovely day 🙂
