Why are multiple versions of Spotify running?

Answer:

You may be wondering why there are several Spotify processes running when other programs seem to only use one or two.

Basically, by distributing operational responsibility for the app over multiple processes (or 'web helpers'), performance can better respond to what’s needed at any particular moment. This is why scrolling through long playlists, which is actually a very graphics-intensive operation, will feel very smooth and seamless to most users.

If you think you're experiencing issues because of these web helpers, you can try reinstalling and restarting Spotify. We definitely don't recommend quitting a web helper as each one operates a key feature (e.g. playlists) of your Spotify experience.

To see what processes are running on your computer, for Windows, press Control+ALT+DEL.

In Mac, Activity Monitor is located in your /Applications/Utilities/ folder.

I think you should include task manager as well as acitivty moniter... Activity moniter is Mac only.

Also, you should say press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and click Task Manager.

Might also want to mention any that report as not responding haven't crashed they just don't reply to OS level polling (which is a Chromium bug).
