In app streaming - some apps still supporting?

Hi guys, 

I work within the product development space for music and have a question for the community. 

One company I had my eye on was EarBuds. Earlier this month I noticed they've had to shut down the project due to the changes to the SDK. I was wondering how this change will effect applications such as Vertigo and Stationhead, and why they haven't had to shutdown or make amendments to the way their apps are running off Spotify (or so it seems)? 

Obviously I understand the risks with building on top of third party SDKs/APIs, but I was wondering if there are alternative resources that allow in app Spotify streaming or an explanation/theory how these companies go about it?
