Am I being scammed???

My wife's account was randomly changed from a student account to a normal premium one.  When she called to figure out why the person on the line asked her to purchase an iTunes gift card and to call him back with the info from the card because our "IP address was compromised."  

This seems super fishy.

I doubt Spotify would ask for a gift card of their competetors service. Also, IP address probably has nothing to do with this. This sounds like a scam and I recommend talking to Spotify about both the itunes gift card and your student/regular premium account issue. Spotify at present do not offer any form of phone support. As such I would always recommend never to give out personal or financial information to these numbers.
