Changing subscription from Premium family to Individual

Solved!

Changing subscription from Premium family to Individual

Hi there,

Due to personal circumstances changing, I will no longer be wanting the Premium family subscription that I share with my flatmates. I'm hoping to move back onto Premium individual.

My next bill is for 29 October you see. So does this mean that I will still have the Premium family subscription from 29 October until 29 November? In other words, when I get charged, is Spotify an advanced payment for the next month?

Grateful for any help.

Kind regards,

Kelly from London

Hi @Kelly281,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community!

You can read about how changing your subscription from Premium Family to individual Premium (via your subscription page) works in this FAQ article (under “What happens if I cancel?”).

When you change your subscription from Premium Family to individual Premium, all accounts on your Premium Family plan will revert to the free, ad-supported service except yours. You will then be charged the standard Premium rate at your next billing date (29 October).

So, rather than having the Premium Family subscription plan from 29 October until 29 November, you will have the individual Premium subscription plan.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and have a good day!

If i want to do the same, but reversed?
I just payed for individual, but i need the duo. Is the fee still the same?

The payment litterely just went through

Hi @kirren97,

You can read about how starting a Premium Duo plan works in this support article as well as in this Spotify Answer.

If you already have Individual Premium and start a Premium Duo plan as the plan manager (by signing up here), then your plan will change immediately, you can invite another member, and your billing switches automatically; so you don’t need to cancel anything. Your new payment date will likely be a few days earlier than usual to cover the price difference between Individual Premium and Premium Duo (Premium Duo has a slightly higher fee per month than does Individual Premium).

If you join a Premium Duo plan that someone else has started, then all subsequent payments on your account are made by the plan’s manager; and any remaining Individual Premium time that you have is forfeited.

My Question or Issue

Affert divorce i want my premium family account to be a premium indiviual account. But i cant chose that option in my account. Help?

Hi @D0513,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome!

In this case, I recommend first canceling your current Premium Family subscription by following these steps, and then waiting for your account to revert to the free service at your next billing date (which you can view on your account page). You can let any other members of your Premium Family plan know that they'll also lose Premium at your next billing date.

At that time, you can sign up for Premium Individual with your same Spotify account here

You and any other member(s) of the current Premium Family plan won’t lose any of your playlists or saved music when your accounts revert to the free service. However, you’ll need to re-download any music for offline listening once you’re subscribed to Premium Individual, as offline listening is a Premium feature.

Also note that members can only switch between different Premium Family or Premium Duo plans once in 12 months.

Tenho o plano família e quero mudar para o individual mas aparece a mensagem de que o plano individual está indisponível pra mim

Hi @shofana,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome! I hope you don't mind me replying in English.

If you see an error message when you try switching to a different Premium plan, I’d first recommend these troubleshooting steps:

It's also possible that you've already changed your plan to Premium Individual. In that case, the  plan changes will take effect from your next billing date, which you can see on your account page, at the very top (under “Your subscription”). There you can find which type of plan you're subscribed to, along with your next billing date—and the plan you'll be charged for next, if you already successfully switched to Premium Individual.

I have an account as part of a Premium Family plan, but I am not the account holder. If I want to remove my account from their family and make it a Premium Individual account, how does that work? Will I temporarily become a free account and lose my downloaded songs and my 154 playlists? Can I create a new Premium Individual account and transfer my data and keep the same username? Is there a way to back up all my data (playlists especially)?

Hi @sionnac,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community!

You can leave the Premium Family plan by following these steps:

  1. Log in to your account page
  2. Under Manage your plan, click Change plan
  3. Scroll to Spotify Free and click Cancel Premium
  4. Continue through to the confirmation message

When you leave the Premium Family plan, your account will immediately revert to the free service, and you can then subscribe to your own Premium Individual plan here.

No worries, changing subscription plans won’t cause you to lose any of your playlists or saved music, and you can keep your same Spotify account no matter which plan you switch to or from.

However, note that since downloading music for offline listening is a Premium feature, you’ll need to re-download your playlists for offline listening once you’ve started your own Premium Individual plan.
