This is pretty dumb. I was given $30 in gift card as a gift and they are useless because of I am a premium subscriber. Not a fan, money is money. I don't get it. Now what do I do with my gift card?

Can you let me know the Spotify plan you're on exactly? If you received a gift card, you should be able to redeem it here. If you're unable to, send me a screenshot of what you're seeing so I can take a closer look.
