My Question or Issue

Hi,

My account was opened in the United States.

My girlfriend's account was opened in Spain.

We now live in the Netherlands and are using star link which connects to the internet thru Germany.

we have tried all above methods to add her to my duo plan.

She would like to keep her playlists.

She can't open an account in the US nor Germany as Spotify would like.

What's your workaround for this?

cheers

Hey, @Lars17
Welcome to the Spotify Community, and thanks for reaching out to us!

You mentioned you're now living in the Netherlands. Could you both check your account's country and make sure it's also set to the Netherlands? Note that you may need to update your payment method by using one that's been issued in the Netherlands in order to change your account's country. If your girlfriend has Premium with a payment method issued in another country, she'll need to cancel her subscription first and wait until the account converts to free. More info here:

Once you're both set in the Netherlands, your girlfriend should be able to join the plan.

Stay awesome!

If you have further questions or if you need anything else, let me know! I'd love to help!

Hi Luan,

Thanks for your message.

I’ve been travelling on my sailboat since 3 yrs. I can’t really open bank accounts in every country I stop just so I can keep my Spotify playlists.
My girlfriend has cancelled her subscription and even tried to join with a new account into the duo, still with the same message saying she is trying to join from a different country.

It seems ridiculous that we both gave to lose our playlists and downloaded songs because…. Uhm… yeah why exactly??

Thanks

Lars

Hey again, @Lars17

You don't need to necessarily make these changes in each country or region you are visiting if you have an active Premium subscription. However, your account must be issued in the same country as your payment method. Considering, that if your account is issued for the Netherlands, the chosen payment method must be also issued for the Netherlands. That's why I recommended checking it on your side.

When it comes to your girlfriend’s account, she must have an account issued in the same country as yours, because Premium Duo requests an address validation to confirm you both live in the same house. Once she joins the Duo plan, no matter in which country you're visiting, the Duo must work without trouble…

I hope these new pieces of information were more clear this time, but don't hesitate to give me a shout if I can help you with anything else 🙂

Keep me posted!
