Hi, We have a family subscription and when I shared the link with my son he has access to Spotify, but when he selects the 'download' button of a playlist I shared with him, he gets the messages that he needs a Premium subscription to download music.
Does anybody know what we did wrong?
thanks
Peter
Hey @smis17
Login to the account page with their account and see what the status of premium shows: https://www.spotify.com/account/overview/
The way Spotify Family works is that each person creates their own Spotify account first if they do not already have one. For everyone to create a Spotify account they will need their own email address.
Once everyone has their own Spotify account you then invite them to join your family plan and then they sign in with that account in the app. Make sure everyone enters the same home address when it asks for verification. Then everyone will be able to listen without interrupting the other users.
Also I recomend checking out these pages for help with the family plan.

Hi. I know this is 2 years after this oringal post but I have the same problem.
I have followed the steps above and my son cannot download music. He also get ads.
I created a new account for him with his own email; I sent him the link to activate; he entered the address correctly and he shows up in my account manager. However, when I log into his account it shows up as Free and asks for him to create a Premium account. I've tried everything and can't seem to figure out how to get him access to Premium features.
Any help you can provide would be great! Thx.
Hey there @tabailey00,
Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community!
We'd first recommend taking a look at this Spotify Answer if your son is having troubles seeing Premium features on his account.
You can also ask him to follow the steps in this Spotify Answer in case he has another account with us and has joined the family plan from that one.
Let us know how things go! We'll be right here if you need more help.
Have a lovely day 🙂

Hi there @GracieG07,
Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome!
That's most likely because you're logged in to a different account which is free. In this case, try logging out and back in, making sure to use the correct account credentials. You can see the email address registered in your account on your account overview page here.
Hope this helps. Keep us posted on how it goes.
