Getting Popups with Premium

Solved!

Getting Popups with Premium

Long term Premium Subscriber here. Just got a popup on Android when clicking Your Library of an ad for some podcast I've never heard of. I pay for premium to NOT get ads. If I wanted to find a new podcast I'd browse my suggestions on the menu that's meant for that. How do I disable this?

Hello @heidinplains8!

Thanks for your reply. Spotify appreciates your feedback about this. In this case, I'd recommend taking a look here to see how you can create an idea for this. That is the best way for your feedback to reach the correct people at Spotify.

Hope this helps and have a nice day 🙂

Hello @djrewsef!

Can you let me know if you are still able to use other Premium features? It'd also be great if you could attach a screenshot of the advert. Also, has this happened in any other devices or is it just on the Android version?

Keep me posted, I'm here to help 🙂

Can't get it to display the pop up again, I assume it's infrequent behavior. Within the same use session I was able to use all premium features. It was some visual ad I had to dismiss of some murder adventure comedy podcast, and I barely listen to podcasts at all. Running Android 6.0.1 on Galaxy S5, up to date app. Haven't seen any pop ups on desktop, just the massive banners for whatever album is being promoted the most of some genre I don't listen to (cough Drake cough). I fear these banners and the pop ups are attempts to normalize subtle ads in premium and if this behavior continues it will cause me to unsubscribe and move to a truly ad free service.

Hello @djrewsef!

I'm sorry for this. I'd recommend having a clean reinstall of the app, just in case.

I hope this does the trick. Make sure to let me know if the issue persists.

After clean install just got another popup (attached) after clicking Your Library. I PAY TO NOT SEE ADS. I don't care if it's promoted material or not, I pay specifically so that I don't get any sort of advertisement and popups definitely breach that agreement.

Hello @djrewsef!

Since you are using an Android device, if you don't want to see those pop-ups, it should be possible to disable them.

Here's how to do so in the mobile app:

  1. Open Spotify, click Your Library, then the gear icon on the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Scroll down in Settings until you see Notifications and click it.
  3. Toggle on or off to pick how and which notifications according to your preference.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions!

I have exactly the same issue. I have got premium and getting similar pop-ups - either advertising random events or Spotify products (like kids version - I don't have children). All notifications are turned off and the ad is still there blocking the entire user-experience so I have to go scrambling to find where is the dismiss button. I am only paying Premium not to see/hear or have to deal with any ads. What's the point, if this is no longer the case?

I do have all notifications turned off and still I get them. Its bad enough that I have to get them, but it wouldn't be so bad if you could swipe it away, or close it with an x button, but you can't. Its stuck there, no matter how much I clear cache, date or reinstall. It leads me to believe that this is not an "accident" but an ad being deliberately forced upon premium users.

Hello there!

I'm sorry to hear you're still having trouble with this. It would be great if you could provide me with the following info: how often do these ads appear? How long do they last? When do they appear - do you do a specific action before seeing them? It might also he worth adding a screenshot of the advert.

Also, @heidinplains8, can you let me know if you tried having a clean reinstall of the app? If so, did that do the trick for you? On another note, you can restart the app and log out and back in to shake things up a bit after reinstalling or toggling the notifications on and off again.

Keep me posted!

Im having the same issue. Starting this past week im getting pop up ads for spotify features and surveys.

All the notification options are disabled yet im still getting these ads. They appear when I open the app and I have to swipe them away. Really frustrating when I'm trying to quickly get a song going.

Hello there!

Thanks for reaching out.

If you are getting the option to ''Learn more'' on the screen, you can click there and you will be given the option to stop that type of pop up from appearing again.

However, it will be very helpful if you could send me over a screenshot of the pop up you're getting.

Have a nice day 🙂

I will try and get a screenshot next time it happens.

Here is an example - and they have all looked the same. with different content like "events near you!!!" etc. And yes, blocking full view for unrelated content asking to visit a website is an ad, even if a government is paying you, not a commercial institution. These things have 0 place in a paid application. Keep it in your free version please.

I appreciate that you are going to forward it, but it's not about coronavirus, it's about any popup at all. This just happened to be what it showed me this time.

I am paying for Spotify, because it means no ads. Now it's showing ads/news/popups whatever you call them. It's still ***advertising*** content that is not music and this is the opposite of what I am paying for. If Spotify wants to become a ads notifications service, by all means, go for it. But I'll stop paying for it.
