It shows their account as the free version of spotify rather than the premium version

In order for us to investigate this further we'd need a bit more information about your issue. Did you already sent the invitation link to the second person? Were they able to open the link and confirm the address on their side? In case you haven't, make sure you do that first. More info on how to invite or remove Duo plan members you can find in this article.

 

As Premium Duo has the requirement that all members of the plan need to live at the same address as the plan manager (the person who subscribed to the plan), the address verification part is very important. We can also recommend to use an incognito or private window when accepting the invitation and typing the address. In case you're having issues, head to this article.
