Plan (Current) Free | Country (India)
I was Premium Student user from India and I’m hoping someone from the Spotify team or community can help clarify my situation.
I was on the legacy discounted Student plan (₹59/₹69 per month) and had already verified my student status before the new ₹99 Student price came in, so I expected to stay on the old rate as long as I kept my subscription active.spotify+3
Recently, my autopay failed due to a bank-side issue, and my account was automatically reverted to Free after the failed payment and multiple retries. I did not manually cancel my subscription at any point. When I tried to resubscribe, the only Student option I see is ₹99/month, and support has told me that my legacy pricing is now permanently lost because my account reverted to Free.spotify
Support agents (Polkam Mansi, Omi, Joseph, Hayase, and Krzysztof) were very kind and offered temporary Premium time / price adjustments as a gesture, but they all said there is no way to restore my old legacy Student price, even though:
-
My student verification was done before the cutoff date for the new pricing.
-
The payment failure was caused by a technical issue and not by me cancelling.
-
I never chose to leave the legacy plan, I just couldn’t re‑enable autopay without being forced into ₹99.
From what I understand, legacy/older plans usually can’t be reactivated once canceled or reverted, but in my case it feels like a technical/banking issue pushed me off the plan, rather than a deliberate choice.spotify+1
What I’m asking for is:
-
Is there any way at all to have my legacy Student pricing reinstated on this same account, given that I was verified and on the plan before the price change?
-
If the policy truly makes this impossible, could a Spotify moderator please confirm this explicitly for Student legacy users in India so others don’t get caught off-guard by the same situation?
I really appreciate any help, clarification, or escalation that can be provided.
Thanks in advance
