Need help with Xbox game pass 6 month trial

alright so I got my six month free trial a few months ago and I am planning on redeeming it today because it expires in about two weeks. My account has never had premium before and every time I try to redeem it, apparently I’m not eligible. 

i looked at the terms and it said that I need a valid payment method on my account. But as far as I can tell, there’s no way to add a payment method without starting a free trial of premium. So I don’t want to start one because then I won’t be able to redeem my 6 month one right? I spent like an hour online seeing if there’s a way I can add payment info without actually subscribing to premium but it seems like there isn’t a way. Am I missing something?

Apologies for the delayed response, we just came across this thread. Could you let us know if you’re still having troubles with this?

If you've never had Premium you should be able to get this offer and the valid payment method is required only when you activate the offer.

You don't need to register it on your account before that, because as you say that will start a subscription and you'll lose your eligibility.

We'd recommend starting off by giving this a try in an incognito window or using a different browser.
 
If your issue persists, it might be a good idea to use a different network and turn off your VPN if you're using one.
