My Question or Issue

I have been using PayPal as a paymentmethod for as long as I have Spotify Premium. Never had any issues. The payments always worked and now, all of the sudden, the payment has not gone through even though my normal debitcard is still linked in my PayPal account. Now Spotify asks me to link my PayPal account with a credit card. But I do not own one, so there is no option of linking a credit card to the account.

How do I fix this?

Kind regards,

Laurens Van den Brande

Hey @VdBLaurens,

Sorry to hear this.

If you're having issues paying with PayPal, here are the key things to check:

Dear,

I already checked these things. The country that has been selected with PayPal is unchanged since I had it. It is Belgium, as well as my Spotify account is registered in Belgium. Like I said. Nothing has changed, but still I get this fault code that I need to ajust my payment method and link a credit card. And as I have mentioned before, I have no option to link one.

What’s the solution?

Kind regards.

Hey @VdBLaurens,

Sorry if that didn’t do the trick. Next, could you follow these steps?

  • Try a different payment method.
We have a range of payment methodsavailable. Try selecting an alternative method to what you’ve already tried, or a different card.

  • Contact your bank or credit card company.
Their phone number is usually provided on the back of the card you’re trying to use.

Let me know how you get on 😊

Dear Billy,

The only option that is available as an other payment method is a credit
card. Like I have already mentioned 2x I don not own one and don't
understand why all of the sudden I need to link one to my PayPal, because
this had always worked before?

Could you please explain and reach out with a solution? Before my account
gets converted to a "FREE" account.

Kind regards,
Laurens Van den Brande

@VdBLaurens,

Thanks for the reply!

Our next steps could be to try:

  1. Cancel your subscription.
  2. Wait for your account to revert to Free. You can check this on your subscription page.
Tip: You won’t lose any music or account settings by reverting to Free, but you will need to redownload anything you’ve made available for offline listening once you’re back on Premium.
  3. Resubscribe to Premium.

I hope this helps 🙂

Dear Billy,

I will try these later on in the day. The only question I ask myself is:
What to do when this does not work and the system asks me to link a credit
card?

Kind regards,

Dear Billy,

As I suspected. It asks me again to link a credit card to Paypal or just
give in a creditcard straight away.

What to do next?

Kind regards,
Laurens

Dear @Billy-J,

As I suspected. It asks me again to link a credit card to Paypal or just
give in a creditcard straight away.

In attachement you can see that there is a card linked to my Paypal and that when I want to pay with Paypal for the premium Family, it asks me to link a credit card to my Paypal.

What to do next?

Kind regards,
Laurens

@VdBLaurens,

Thanks for the screenshot 🙂

Let’s make you’re resubscribing from here, instead of heading to your account page and choosing to update a payment method. On top of that, try clearing your browser's cache and cookies, or using an incognito window.

Let me know how this goes 🙂

Dear Billy,

Still the same result. I get the screen of Paypal where I need to link a credit card.

Kind regards.

Dear Billy,

I added some money on my Paypal-account and went through like that. It accepted the payment without a problem.

Kind regards,

Laurens
