I want to offer spotify to my friend. I wanted to know something.

If I offer a gift card can she have before the free first month ?

Gift cards don't expire and can be redeemed up until 1 year later.

So what they can do is sign up for the 30 day free trial (with a credit card) and then after starting the free trial they can go into the account and cancel the trial. That way they will get the full 30 days free, but they won't be charged on the credit card when the 30 days are over.

Then after the 30 day trial is over, they can go to http://spotify.com/redeem to redeem the gift card you gave them.

So in summary, they can sign up for the free trial first, and then redeem the gift card once the trial is over.

Are you asking if users get the 30 days free trial if they upgrade to Premium using a Gift Card?

Unfortunately not, they'll have to use a recurring payment method (eg. PayPal, Credit Card).

Or, instead of giving them the gift card first and letting it sit around ane maybe get lost, they can sign up for the free trial first, and then near the end of the free trial you can give them a gift card so they can redeem it. That way it's less likely the gift card will be lost.
