There's no auto-renewal when using a prepaid payment method (e.g. Gift Card). 

Alternatively, you could use a regular payment method (e.g. Credit Card) and cancel the subscription every month to disable auto-renewal.

As @Maxim suggested, the best way to manually renew your Spotify subscription is to use a Gift card instead of a recurring payment method.
