Can MP3 songs that are not in the Spotify catalog be played as Local files?

Can MP3 songs that are not in the Spotify catalog be played as Local files?

When I take music folders that contain MP3 songs that I have ripped or purchased and add them as a Local files folder source, when they show up in Spotify the songs are listed but greyed out.  Is it possible to play local MP3 files that cannot be matched in the Spotify catalog?   If not are there any plans to support this common scenario?

Thanks,

 Rick

It is possible, you have to make sure that the songs are downloaded through the spotify app on your phone as well.

Local files not in the Spotify catalog don't even play on the Windows PC where I have those local files stored let alone on a different device like a phone.

Hey @rickengle,

Thanks for posting here 🙂

Mp3 is one of the supported file types.

In this case we'd suggest you give these steps a go to check if that changes anything.

If that doesn't help, it's a good idea to delete the playlists with local files and to start again from scratch.

Note that only files or downloads from legal sources are allowed on Spotify.

Let us know how it goes.
