Changing the heart button to a plus

Solved!

Changing the heart button to a plus

Hey there,

We wanted to let you know that our design team is currently testing a new layout for the button responsible for adding items to Your Library and your playlists on iOS. The team is exploring revamping the look and some of the functions of the Now Playing view and this includes a possible change of the heart symbol for a plus sign thus streamlining the process to encompass "one button to rule them all" design.

In some versions of the app you might see a plus instead of the heart or you may see some differences in the way the Now Playing view looks, so if you want to share your feedback with the team it's best that you also include a screenshot of what you see so that we'd be able to properly sort and forward your thoughts.

When designing this new experience our teams tried to incorporate as much as possible of your valuable feedback from our older tests about this. As before, we would really appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the test in this thread. Your feedback will this way reach the right team directly.

Let's continue to together improve our experience using the Spotify app!

Really liked the feature that adds a song to multiple playlists at once! Wish i could have it back, hope it gets added as an official feature later on !

I cannot stand this new update. I was just placed in the A/B test and now the app no longer shows a heart next to songs I've added to my liked songs.

The idea of allowing you to add a song to more than 1 playlist is good but making it harder to tell which songs are already in our library is terrible.

i agree that it sucks so please turn it back to the heart

I have a feeling I keep getting added into these A/B tests because I listen to Spotify all day everyday 🙂

Feedback on the now playing screen:

  1. Having the song/artist link in the top left makes it hard to reach. Looks fine visually, but having it below the album art and above the controls made more sense to me. You notice the album art first, then as you look down to the controls below you see the name and artist.
  2. I always swiped down to minimize so it doesn’t affect me, but I do see why you’d want the entire top part to be a button to minimize.
  3. I get wanting to have an extra button, but a sleep icon thats dead center below the album art looks odd. I barely ever use that feature. I’m assuming the way the app is setup having this customizable is not feasible.
  4. Tapping the playlist name (now bottom right next to the queue icon) and it not going to the playlist is a huge loss for me. Before I could tap the playlist name at the top of the screen and go. Now I have to tap the queue button and then tap the playlist name at the top.
  5. I’m glad I didn’t lose the heart this time. Last year I had the plus icon replace it for a month or so and it was annoying. It took two taps instead of one to add a song to liked songs. It removed hearts on songs in playlists so I didn’t know if a song was in my library. You couldn’t swipe to like a song. This is another place where if the app had customizations you could have it both ways, because I know some people really prefer the plus button and use playlists over liked songs.
  6. Totally visual, but I do miss having the background color fill the entire screen. But this new way is actually better in terms of phone usability (I think it hid the iphones time/signal/etc before).
  7. Rounded album art looks really nice! But it looks good square too. If the rest of the app is moving towards rounded squares then this is the way.

Overall it was just an extremely nice UI before. This one is pretty good too, and I get why these changes are being tested out - but I think for some of these features user customization is the way to go.

I had that option and I loved it, it’s gone now and I really want it back, would it be possible to have people choose to have that option? I have so many playlists so constantly scrolling and adding only to have to do it again several times just gets really tedious.

I agree with you 10000% … being in their test group and having constant changes on an almost daily/at least weekly basis is making me so stressed and resentful. I just want to open the app and see all the music i love but now i no longer have a visual indication of what songs i already like/listen to/have in my library. Especially difficult to navigate while driving.

PLEASE bring the heart back. I depend/rely heavily on the green heart to visually organize my music abd access it quickly. I would argue that it is THE most important feature for me, personally. Example: im driving and need to choose a song quickly… the green heart says “pick me, you already know me and love me. Concentrate on driving instead of angrily clicking on songs that you cant remember if you like or not.”

I would welcome the plus sign as a quick way to add a song to a custom playlist instead of clicking the three dots etc. what i want is the heart icon or a thumbs up or any quick, single touch that creates a visual marker i can see immediately. I personally never use the app to just sit and stare at the screen- i am always cooking, driving, or working and i dont have time to read and click and try to remember things without visual cues.

also, can we opt out of being tested on constantly? Its ruining my experience of spotify. I am tired of investigating and feeling dissappinted  every time i open the app, trying ti figure out how to use your new features and experimental features when all i wanted was to play a song. The amount of time i spend on reddit/google/spotify forum desperately searching for help and answers is unreasonable, stressful, and super time consuming. Please- i truly need the heart or another visual marker that is always visible (in playlists, in now playing, in album view, in search, etc) to show me what i already like

p.s. My screenshots show: a band i follow with 33 songs liked. All the photos show the liked songs and the album view of the same songs, with no hearts now so i cant tell which ones i like and dont like. I cant remember song names very well but i can remember i like songs with green icon next to it

My Spotify updated after adding the plus button and I loved it. I was finally able to see where I stores songs on playlists. Today the app updated and my plus is gone and the heart is back. I really loved how I could organize my music and miss the plus button.

I loved the option to add a song to multiple playlists in one go! It saves me so much time. I think it should be a feature somehow.... it can be an option when you click add to playlist.....

When looking through playlists, the hearts make it easy to determine which songs that you have liked or not.

With the plus sign it’s hard to determine. Especially if the playlist is downloaded.

Maybe once it becomes a liked song, it turns green or something? Or some type of symbol appears next to the song so you can tell which ones you’ve liked?

Easy to tell with the hearts. Hard to determine without them there.

Can I please opt out of this test set up? I’m really sick of it. It’s a horrible interface

Hey. I find this new layout of playing songs extremely inconvenient. The song title is placed in the up left corner of the screen instead of underneath the song cover. Plus, the song cover, as you can see, is rounded instead of squared. I’d love to get the old layout back - the one everyone loved and got used to. Thank you.

Thats a wholesome perspective. my gf uses the heart on spotify only to distinguish bands that she really really really loves.

is the heart back because my phone is being worked on and if it is back, then this idea backfired and the people win..

@Lyubka can we keep the “add song to multiple playlists” / checkmarks functionality? This drastically improved the  playlist experience, drastically reducing number of taps required. Please bring it back!!

Hey @avfinchum

Spotify removed the 10,000 Liked Songs limit a few years ago. You can like more than 10,000 songs.

However, the 10,000 song limit for a regular playlist still applies. If you create a playlist, you can only have 10,000 songs inside of it.

Come on, Spotify, reintroduce a marker on a song (like the heart) that it is a favorite, so that this can be seen in the tracklist of an album or a playlist. This change to remove the heart really makes me furious. It is the first time that I am angry about the app, and I am using it for some years now with a premium account. Why not make it visible in a tracklist which tracks received a like? I really can’t see what purpose this change has.

Hello, I liked very much the fonctionnality of the plus button but it removed in heart now and it’s less easy to know in which playlist is the song I listen.
if it’s possible I would like to have the plus button again 😁

I think the idea to add a song to multiple playlists at once is a good thing as with the plus functionality, but keep the heart symbol next to a song when it is a favorited
