Discover Weekly influenced by Spotify Duo

Discover Weekly influenced by Spotify Duo

Plan: Spotify Duo (for the last 3 weeks, Premium Individual before that for 7 years)

Country: Germany

Device (Operating System):

(as this is an account-based topic, this shouldn't matter at all)

  • iPhone XR (iOS 16.6.1)
  • ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Windows 11 Pro Version 2H22)
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch 5th gen (iPadOS 16.6.1),

My Issue

As stated above I have switched my premium subscription about three weeks ago to include my partner. In the notes on Spotify Duo it was explicitly stated, that our recommendations and playlists would be kept separate. This was important to me as my "Discover Weekly" was mostly really good, as I have used Spotify a lot in the last years.

This does however not seem to be the case, as half my "Discover Weekly" Playlist this week can only be explained by the listening history on her account as genres and artists I seldom listen to are prevalent here, especially German language Disney songs and musicals as well as a lot of german language singer songwriters. This is music which is listened to by the kids on her account. We can also find artists, she often listens to, but I don't.

I want to clearly state, that the kids did not have access to my phone or other devices in the last weeks and my partner uses her own devices explicitly. All smart devices are linked to her account, not mine.

My Questions related to this issue?

  • Can I turn this influence on my "Discover Weekly" off somehow? I looked everywhere including the website but I couldn't find it.
  • If I can't turn this off, how do I get personalized and generalized recommendations instead? I do not mean a "Radio" for a song or artist one listens to anyway.
  • As this seems to have been a problem that occured earlier according to other posts, when Duo Mix was still a thing, which was supposed to be phased out last year. Could Spotify please check if there is some code left over from this?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hey there @alittlelunatic

Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.

Based on what you mentioned, it's possible that your partner is accidentally using your account on one of her devices.

In this case, we suggest that you ask her to log out everywhere with the following steps:

  1. Log in to your account page and scroll all the way to the bottom.
  2. Select SIGN OUT EVERYWHERE.

Since this doesn't include partner devices (e.g. speakers, games consoles, and TVs), for those your partner will need to go to her apps page and choose REMOVE ACCESS.

Afterwards, she'll need to log back in to her account on all her devices.

On another note, keep in mind that the Made for you playlists are based on your listening history. That being said, you can select the songs that you don't like and choose the "Hide this song" option. Likewise, you can like the songs you do like by clicking on the heart/+ icon. This will help the playlist to be updated so it can include more personalized results. The more music you like you listen to, the faster your recommendations will update.

Hope this helps. If you need a hand with anything else, the Community is here for you.
