Home Screen Stopped Refreshing

A few days ago, my Recently Played disappeared. This has happened before, so I signed out and back in but it didn't reappear. The next day, my home screen was frozen and showed content from the previous day. The same categories are still shown (Your Shows, Jump Back In, etc) and haven't updated since. I tried logging out, restarting my phone, deleting the app, deleting all of Spotify's data, installing the new iOS, going offline, clearing the cache, making a new account - still frozen, and Recently Played is long gone. Everything else works fine but I mainly use the app through the Recently Played section. Could this be an issue with my account or am I missing something?

Were you able to use a different account normally on your device? If so, the issue may very well be connected to your current account.

 

Just to be sure try using a different internet connection as well.

I logged into my account on my girlfriend's phone and had the same issue. She logged into her account on my phone and  home screen was normal (and refreshed soon after). I've switched networks a few times and nothing has changed. If this is an issue with my account (and I'm 99% sure we just proved it is), can it be resolved or do I have to start fresh? 

Also, if it helps, the home screen is completely normal on desktop.

Thanks for the post and for walking us through your troubleshooting.

 

It does sound like this issue is related to your account specifically. 

 

Recommendations on the home page usually update when the algorithm has been able to gather enough data on your listening activity, but sometimes it can seem to be stuck if nothing changes. 

 

I'd suggest the following:

  • Log out and back in from the mobile app twice in a row. This will force sync your account with the servers.
  • Make sure that Private Session is off from the app settings.
  • Try Following some new artists/ playlists and listening to music via the search option, instead of playlists like Daily Mix for a few days. This should refresh your recommendations and the things that appear on your home page.

 

See if anything changes in a week or two before migrating your library to a new account.


Currently a new UI home page update is rolling out on Mobile, so this issue could be related to the update, even though we can't be sure.

 

Keep us posted on how you get on with this.

Obviously, it hasn't been two weeks, but logging out twice did change the home screen. It refreshes some, but not all, categories (usually the ones I don't care about). So this works, but Recently Played is still missing. I'm not sure if this is something that will eventually be refreshed, or if I've hit a dead end. Should I migrate to a new account?

That's better than nothing, and I use that sometimes, but I'm looking for the horizontal Recently Played section - where Jump Back In, etc currently are.

The content on the Home page is dynamic and there's no specific updating schedule or set content there.
