Hey there folks,
Thanks for all your replies and for the info shared here.
For those of you who have a free account and recently traveled or find yourselves abroad, keep in mind that you can use Spotify free in a different country or region for up to 14 days. To use it for longer than 14 days, you'll need to change your account settings, as mentioned by @Novy here.
However, if you already checked your country settings, and they match with your current location, you can follow some of the suggestions posted in this thread previously. You can start by following those suggested by @Susan here.
If you've checked your region/country settings, try some further troubleshooting and these issues continue, then we suggest you create a new post, so we can have a further look at each specific case.
We'll be on the lookout!
Update:
I've created a new account with another google account, works fine. So it's not the hardware problem for sure. Don't know if I'm gonna face the same problem in a couple weeks (as the previous account, the one that stopped working was also up for a few weeks, less than a month). I've tried to log in into an old account after that, didn't help. Loosing all the saved favorites is sad, but that's the only solution I've found.
I'm getting the same message when trying to use free features. Nothing is playing for me. Everything I do I get the "you've discovered a premium feature" message. I'm about to delete Spotify altogether and find another music platform to play from.
Thanks for sending the info and screenshots, @Smegalex!
It's worth mentioning that sometimes tech and account issues can cause different performance issues in Spotify which may not be what's actually the case so that's why a clean reinstall or new account is helpful in such situations. It's great to hear that the app's now working for you with the new account.
When it comes to your music, you can check out this article for more info on how you can transfer it to the new account.
Welcome to @user-removed to the thread as well!
If you're still seeing this message, would you mind sharing what steps you've tried so far? I recommend logging out > logging back in twice in a row as this resyncs your account and the device you're using, but should there be no difference you can also go ahead and create a new account.
Keep us posted 🙂
Yes, I had that same issue with my Galaxy S21 Ultra while listening from a Spotify-support country. I am interested in subscribing to Premium, but there as only one obstacle.
While coming back to Somalia from vacations, I was able to listen for up to 14 days until it the app became virtually useless. This is because, Spotify is currently not available in the country.
Despite this, when will Spotify and its premium services become available in Somalia? I have been waiting patiently for more than a year now, as it has become available for most of Africa for more than 3 years now, including Ethiopia where it was the latest launch country.
Here is the screenshot attached showing its not available. ↘
Thank you for your attention.
Hi there @katarighe,
Thanks for your reply in this thread.
You can use a free Spotify account in a different country or region than where your account is registered for up to 14 days. After that, you won’t be able to play anything. To continue using your account, you need to get Premium or change your account settings.
Now, if the country you're in at the moment is not available, it means Spotify is not supported there yet. No worries, we're launching in new countries and regions as often as possible. We don't have any specific waiting time, but you can stay tuned by checking our social media channels.
If you need a hand with anything else, we're always a post away.
Woah, it might've been my problem. I did download Spotify (and created an account) right as I bought my phone during a vacation. I'll try to change it in the settings.
Hi there @Smegalex,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, you can definitely try that. You can change the country settings by following the steps in the article we sent in our previous reply.
Let us know how that goes, or if you still need help.
Cheers!
Hi again and thanks for the reply.
Based on your comments, I can't see the current country on the list and only see the last country that I used Spotify free the last time. I have sent the photo showing that there is only one country available. Usually, they will show 2 countries on the menu. 👇
If I subscribe to Premium, I know that I can use it worldwide but if travel to a unsupported country and it expires, can I renew that subscription directly in that country or should I go back to the country where I subscribed that service? Premium subscriptions do not last long.
As for the service availability in Somalia, how can I know when it's available aside from your offical social media networks, I have been waiting for so long. Many African countries have got that service more than 3 years ago. So, I am wondering why it takes a long time to make it available in that country.
While I wait, can I continue using the Free service with a VPN or should I have to wait patiently until it becomes officially available? And is there a way to expedite this availability issue? Please help me with this as I am a diehard listener and have no place else.
Thank you
Hey @katarighe,
Thanks for your reply. We'll do our best to answer all your questions.
So, keep in mind that it's expected not be able to see the country/region you're currently located in said drop-down menu if Spotify is not available there.
On another note, if you subscribe in a country where the app is available, but then you travel where it's not and your subscription expires, you won't be able to subscribe again. If you return to a country in which the service is available, you can subscribe, but if you don't stay there you'll face the same issue mentioned above.
We appreciate your interest in Spotify and its expansion to new markets. The best way to stay up-to-date is by subscribing to our Newsroom newsletter, so you get notified about new offers and availability. We don't have further info on this type of news, so we encourage you to stay tuned to Newsroom blogs.
Lastly, keep in mind, Spotify doesn't officially support VPN. This means that issues with the app while using VPN are expected behavior.
We hope you found this helpful. We're always here to help.
Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome!
Yes, this might be related to the fact that you recently went abroad. You can use Spotify free in a different country or region for up to 14 days. However, if you already updated your country settings and your playlists are still empty, we can check.
First up, go to your Account Overview page and make sure your country settings are correct. Additionally, double check your account credentials and make sure you're logging in correctly. If everything is correct, try logging out and back in twice in a row from the app to force a sync between your account and device. If that doesn't help, try reinstalling the app by following these steps. No worries, you won't lose any saved content.
If the issue persists, send over a screenshot of the message you get when accessing your playlists.
We'll be on the lookout!
Hi there,
Welcome to the Spotify Community!
Could you check if your country is set properly on your account page? You might get this error if it hasn't been updated recently. After that, I recommend logging out and signing back in twice in a row - this will force an internal resync of the app.
Hope this helps. Cheers 🤘
