Playlist order do not sync between desktop app and iPhone app

Solved!

Playlist order do not sync between desktop app and iPhone app

Plan

Premium

Device

iPhone 15 Pro Max / Macbook Pro 2020

Operating System

iOS 26.1 / MacOS Seguoia

My old, long playlist was always sorted by date. I accidentally shuffled it on my phone by pressing the shuffle button.

I changed the playlist song order to sorted by date using the desktop app.

The playlist song order doesn't change on the phone app. It doesn't change even though I've reinstalled the app and logged out and back in a few times.

Any thoughts?

Hey there @Marypoppers,

Thanks for adding more info and for the screenshots you sent us.

When activating the mixing option, you’re playlist automatically sorts by Custom order, so that’s why the order changed.

Bear in mind that sorting order does not sync between devices. We can see that you’ve already disabled the Mix feature on your phone. As you’re using the date filter on desktop, from newest to oldest, you’ll need to locate the sorting options on mobile at the top of the playlist and select Recently added.

By default, the app will sort from oldest to newest when selecting Recently added. To change this, go again to the sorting options and locate the arrow pointing down (↓). Tap on the arrow, so it changes to an arrow pointing up (↑). This will sort the songs from newest to oldest. Bear in mind:

  • Pointing down (↓) indicates sorting is from oldest to newest.
  • Pointing up (↑) indicates sorting is from newest to oldest.

We hope you found this helpful. Let us know if you need anything else.

Hey @Marypoppers,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

If the playlist has a different order now, it's possible that you've accidentally pressed the Sort button on your device instead of the Shuffle button as it doesn't change the playlist order. So taking into account that this change was made on your phone, we'd recommend sorting the songs by date again on the same device.

To do so, open the playlist you want to rearrange, tap the "Sort" button located at the top of the tracks and select the option "Recently added" to place the newest song at the top and the older at the bottom. If you want the opposite sort (from oldest to newest), just tap the "Recently added" button again and make sure the arrow located next to the button changes from pointing up, to pointing down.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for answering 🙏🏻

Apologies, maybe I explained this wrong. I accidentally pressed the Mix-button in the phone app. It shuffled/mixed the playlist song order.

Afterwards I fixed the order on the computer app (by date), but it didn't fix it on the phone app. Even if I logged out etc.

**bleep**, I'm so sorry!

The text size on my phone is so big that the sort-by button was totally hidden.

Thanks a million, I found it by scrolling horizontally 😁🙌🏻

Hi.

I tried this solution, but I don't even have the option to sort the songs on my web player. This is a work laptop, so I cannot install the app. How can I change it?

Hey @thespaniard666,

The only way to change the playlist sorting for the Web Player is to access Spotify from the app on a different device and to change the sorting to 'Custom Sort'. Once this is done, any changes you make to the playlist order while it is sorted in this way will also be reflected on the Web Player as well.

Hope this helps! We're here for you if there's anything else.

Do you see this little arrow when hovering this row with your mouse pointer? Here is the sorting arrow in my web player, but it is hidden without the mouse pointer.

Thanks for the attempt. Unfortunately, all I want is the most recent songs on top as a default, otherwise it would be a huge job with a 3500+ song playlist. No idea why this is not available on web browser.
Cheers,
Óscar

Yes, but it does not allow me to change the order, only to choose which of the columns to be shown.
Cheers,

Óscar
