My Question or Issue
So when i try to listen to music on any playlist, all the songs are greyed out and when i double click on a song in the playlist, it says "This content is not available", it only works i search for a song or artist separately. ive restarted over and over, redownloaded, logged in and out but still nothing.
Hey there @Isolde__,
Thanks for reaching out on the Community!
Could you try clearing saved cache from the app to see if you notice any difference? It's worth clearing host files from the device as well.
Shouldn't that do the trick, could you let us know if this happens on all devices that you use Spotify on, or just with a specific one?
If possible, it would be great if you can give another internet connection a shot as well, to check if you experience the same thing there.
Let us know how it goes!
Hi @Maria,
I tried clearing host files but I don't find the stuff needed to be deleted, and i have cleared saved cache multiple times.
And for the devices, my spotify works on my phone (Iphone 10) but it doesnt work on my PC, it works on the browser but not on the app.
And for internet connection still reacts the same
Hey there @Isolde__,
Thanks for getting back to us.
As a next step, we suggest that you check your firewall and make sure Spotify is set as an exception. Additionally, disable any antivirus or ad-blocking software, and turn off any VPNs if in use.
If those steps don't do the trick either, it's well worth running a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.
Lastly, we'd recommend checking if the OS of your PC is up to date.
Keep us posted on how it goes.
Hey Eni,
I have firewall exceptions set for spotify and ive done countless reinstalls of spotify.
as for windows update, my pc has it paused till the 21st so ill update when i can to see if thats the issue and update you, any other solutions to test till then??
Hey @Isolde__,
Thanks for your reply.
Can you confirm if you're using VPN? If yes, then try switching it off to see if the songs become available. You can also check if the playback of explicit-rated content is enabled in the settings just in case.
Let us know how it goes.
Hey Elena,
Yes i can confirm i am using no VPN and as for the explicit setting, i turned it off, nothing had changed, and same for turning it back on.
Thanks for keeping us in the loop @Isolde__!
Just to check, are you able to use the desktop app with Connect? And if so, does the playlists still appear in the same way? For example, you can start playback on your phone and then control playback from your computer using connect.
While you wait for an update for your computer's OS, you can also check if switching on Enable hardware acceleration makes any difference. To find it, go to Settings in the desktop app > scroll down to Compatibility.
Keep us posted!
Hi Maria,
i tried to connect to my computer through my Phone and it doesnt appear as a option, but for some reason does on a web browser (Opera GX for this example)
and for hardware acceleration, i had it enabled and nothing changed so i turned it off and nothing else seems to have changed 😕
Thanks for the info @Isolde__.
I'd recommend reinstalling Spotify from a different source to see if that does the trick: if you downloaded the app from our website, try the version from the Microsoft Store instead, and vice versa.
In case the songs in your playlists are still greyed out, it's worth giving the steps under Method 3 in this article a go, as they may help here.
Keep us posted!
