My Question or Issue

On both webplayer and the desktop app, I try to play a playlist from the beginning, not on shuffle, but the player will skip over several songs for seemingly no reason - they're not greyed out or marked unavailable in any way. When I select a song from further down in the playlist it does the same thing, refuses to play the one I requested and skips to a different one 3 or 4 down. I've logged out and back in multiple times, deleted cookies, deleted and reinstalled the desktop app. Nothing works.

I've just discovered that if I use the back button to go back to the song I wanted to hear, it will play it. If that helps.

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

@jelemely, in this case, we understand you have already reinstalled the app on your devices. Can you confirm if you followed these steps for the clean reinstall in your device? If you haven't, give it a try.

On another note, we'd like to gather some additional info. Is this happening if you change the internet connection you're using? Is this happening over WiFi? Ethernet? Both? If possible, you can create a hotspot from your phone and connect your computer to it, to see if you notice any difference. Give it a try and let us know if changing the connection makes any difference.

Since you mentioned this is happening on the web player, can you check if this is happening if you use a different browser?

@jelemely, can you share with us the troubleshooting you've already tried? This'll help us avoid repeating any steps.

I have a similar issue that comes up sometimes in that my playlist skips about 5 songs in my queue when on shuffle and I have to skip back to listen to those 5 songs that have been skipped.

Hey @ThatAction27,

Thanks for your reply.

In this case, would you letting us know the exact make/model and OS of the affected device along with the Spotify version you have currently running? Just to confirm, is this happening across all your devices?

On another note, have you already tried the troubleshooting proposed above? If you haven't yet, a clean reinstall of the app, as mentioned, could help. By doing that the app can be up-to-date and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this inconvenience. You can see the steps for a clean reinstall here.

Lastly, just to confirm, has the app always been behaving like this or does it start to happen after a specific event such as an OS update? Please send us the details about it.

I have a Google Pixel 4a android 13. I recently did a clean reinstall about 2 weeks ago as I was dealing with a separate shuffling issue and I've tried about every solution possible. I read somewhere that changing to offline mode would solve the problem so I've been using offline mode since. And now it seems that after 2-3 uses of the app, my playlist skips about 3-5 songs in the queue so I have to skip back about 3 songs to get to the song that was supposed to be playing next.

I've only been having issues with shuffling and queues being deleted for about 4-5 months I'd say after downloading the android 11 update. Before that I had no issues with shuffling even without using offline mode.

Hey @ThatAction27,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Would it be possible to try using a different internet connection or logging in on a different device using your account, so we can narrow down the possible cause of the issue?

My computer has no problems, the issues appear just on mobile. I did another clean reinstall and now if I listen to music either online or offline, then close my app, open it again and skip to the next song, the queue clears and the next song freezes. The only way I've managed to get it to work after is to play a random song and then start the playlist again. I've attached a photo of it below.

Hey @ThatAction27

Thanks for getting back to us.

If the clean reinstall didn't do the trick, there're also a few other things we can try. Can you make sure that Spotify has all necessary permissions enabled?

  1. Open your Settings menu.
  2. Scroll to the bottom to find Spotify and open the app settings.
  3. Enable everything you see.

It's also a good idea to exclude the app from any Battery optimization software that might be active on your smartphone.

Let us know how it goes.
