Watch and Listen: Introducing music videos on Spotify

Spotify knows that the listening experience is a way to connect artists with fans on many levels. But what if we could enhance these connections with a different perspective? 

With this in mind, Spotify is introducing a new and powerful way to listen to your favorite songs: Music Videos.

This exciting new feature is being rolled out in Beta for Premium users across more than 90 countries worldwide. At this point, Music Videos is with a limited catalog, but it includes hits from local artists and global ones like Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, and Ariana Grande.

How to watch music videos on Spotify:

• Music Videos is being rolled out in Beta for Premium users in some specific countries. This includes Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Philippines, Poland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Egypt and the United Kingdom.
• Music Videos is available for Premium users on iOS, Android, desktop, and TV devices. 
• You can access it through the Now Playing View, when listening to supported music tracks. You just need to tap the “Switch to Video” toggle and the music video will start playing from the beginning. To head back to audio-only mode, tap on “Switch to Audio”.
• You can watch the videos in either portrait or landscape modes, and it is also available for Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode.

Considering it's in Beta, Spotify will continue to improve the new feature based on feedback both from users and artists.

Currently, Spotify is working on ways to improve the experience of switching the playback from music to video and vice-versa, adopting a TimeSync transaction and this update is being released to the users gradually. There is also a 18+ content enforcement to prevent minors have access to explicit content.

Please provide the option to default to audio and not video. It ALWAYS buffers when type podcast I want to listen to is a video, even on my home WiFi. And usually the only way to get the podcast to play is to download it…I don’t want to download it! This has been a terrible experience.

That is only half a solution. At least for me it is not solving any of the problem created by adding videos.
I do not want my kids to watch videos on Spotify, so it does not help if I stop to watch these videos as long as there is some desire from my kids. As long as there is no way to separate access to audio from video it simply does not work for families.

Videoclip (with poor audio) self not plays automatic anymore for me, but it does show what they call a canvas. This is a 3-4sec loop of part of the clip. But this canvas not seems to impact audio quality.

This can be turned off by going to Settings and then Display.

Hi Luan, gonna be a good feature to add the ability of select to start reproducing videos or the music only in each next song, like remember the last selection in the switch of the toggler's videos, or a preference in the configurations.

I was experiencing when I'm in the subway the app try to reproducing video and the play went off, and I have that music as song only in the caché.

If it's only video of music, why not, but on the home section i have always video of non music content... I hate not having choice to desactivate this feature

Já realizei todos os procedimentos solicitados pelo suporte, como reinstalação limpa (Limpeza de dados, cache, exclusão de arquivos etc) e todos os sistemas atualizados. Alguém teria uma ideia do problema?

This feature completely destroyed my listening experience, when I turn on the song, after it's done I only get recommended songs with music video, that has nothing to do with what I was listening to. Not only that, but music videos have worse quality than just audio. Right now my spotify is useless after so many years of using it, I use my spotify mostly when driving and walking, I dont care for music videos. Unless there won't be a option to turn it off, I'll go looking for music app that will suit my needs, because I don't need that.

But now after update I'm not even able to enjoy your video content. Before update when I purchased premium version all songs were playing countinously with video but now I have to switch again and again for every single song.

Make it as earlier.

Continuous video playback without switch it on for every song.

I just migrated my 7k songs to Amazon Music and will cancel my 10 year subscription. You just don't care about your users, why should we bother? Good bye Spotify.

I share the family account with my kids. If spotify does not offer the option to turn off the music videos for their accounts, I‘ll need to switch services. Fix it, please!

O videoclipe inteiro está tocando na plataforma. No momento, um tipo de gif curto está tocando. O ideal seria que o videoclipe fosse exibido se possível, para que não tivéssemos que sair da plataforma para assistir ao videoclipe.  

 The entire music video is playing on the platform. At the moment, a kind of short gif is playing. Ideally, the music video would be shown if possible, so we wouldn't have to leave the platform to watch the music video.

Subscribed for many years. Also, shared with kids for only listening experience. If spotify does not offer the option to turn off the music videos for their accounts, I‘ll have to switch services.

All users with children want this, it would be ridiculous to ignore it.

Please reconsider and add a simple button for "turn off videos"

Mate, I know exactly like you feel. I had the same some month ago, believed Spotify would change it soon as it is so obvious and easy.

But after a couple of month I must realize that Spotify simply does not listen. I am sure most would be happy to wait another month if we could get a clear statement that this toogle will come for kids. But to be honest they sh** on families and take their money. I do not believe they will listen and even provide a response.
I am at the point to leave when I have time to migrate our lists...
