Spotify knows that the listening experience is a way to connect artists with fans on many levels. But what if we could enhance these connections with a different perspective?
With this in mind, Spotify is introducing a new and powerful way to listen to your favorite songs: Music Videos.
This exciting new feature is being rolled out in Beta for Premium users across more than 90 countries worldwide. At this point, Music Videos is with a limited catalog, but it includes hits from local artists and global ones like Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, and Ariana Grande.
How to watch music videos on Spotify:
Considering it's in Beta, Spotify will continue to improve the new feature based on feedback both from users and artists.
Currently, Spotify is working on ways to improve the experience of switching the playback from music to video and vice-versa, adopting a TimeSync transaction and this update is being released to the users gradually. There is also a 18+ content enforcement to prevent minors have access to explicit content.
I hope you are as excited as I am for this new way to enhance your connection with your favorite artists. For any feedback on the matter you may have, you are more than welcome to share it with us below on this thread.
You can find the latest updates on the topic in the official announcement from the Spotify Newsroom here.
Hey folks,
There's currently an issue with the Switch to video button not showing up on mobile devices that's being looked into. We'll keep everyone posted in this other thread here, check it out 👍
Cheers!
I like the option of being able to watch the music videos. However, could it be possible either place the video marker further back so the artist name is still at the beginning? Additionally, in my opinion the icon for switching between the two are not matching the colour changing background which make it pop a bit too much.
I recently found the music video feature on the Spotify mobile app, and it’s a nice addition. Before, I had to use Apple Music or YouTube Music for this.
A couple of suggestions:
1. **Keep Music Video Mode On**: Right now, after a music video ends, it switches back to audio-only for the next song. It’d be great if it could stay in video mode.
2. **Screen Rotation**: Full-screen videos should auto-rotate so they fit whether the screen is in portrait or landscape.
These tweaks would make the experience smoother. Thanks.
I noticed that my earlier comment was moved to this thread but actually the technical problem is not directly related to the longer music videos, but the shorter clips which are associated with many videos and have been available for a while. My comment was not clear, it seems; but when I wrote this I think I was not even familiar with the music video feature. I think music videos were only introduced in my area very recently, but I have had this problem with the clips for a while. For whatever reason, my computer and the Spotify desktop version can't handle these clips. Anyway, I guess no one knows why or has the same problem.
While I really like that Spotify is adding Videos to Songs now switching to a music video results in the audio becoming muffled and quieter for no reason, forcing me to increase the volume level. Then when I switch back to audio, it’s way too loud because I previously had to increase the volume.
All of this is nonsensical and unnecessary if switching to Video has the same loudness as Audio (cover art) does. Please fix this Spotify!
Some Reddit user on r/truespotify commented on this aswell saying: „The bad thing is if you switch to MV the audio quality is much inferior. The sound is much quieter and muffled.“
Will there be an option to display/remove the big, black CENSORED that appears on some music videos? Surely it can be as simple as an age being entered on the account?
Do the streams of listening to music with the music video count to the Spotify streams or music video views on YouTube?
I like that I can now watch music videos on Spotify. I used to watch music videos obsessively as a kid, and I can never prioritise sitting down to watch them nowadays. Having them as an option on Spotify, which is the main way I listen to music, is great.
I don't like that the next song, if it has a video available, doesn't automatically continue in music video mode. I'm assuming/hoping that this will be ironed out in the near future? Perhaps a setting that says if a song has a music video, to default to that view?

How do I block the video function? I want my children to listen to music from the TV, but not watch music videos.
How to remove / block the function?
I'd like to have the option to choose only audio playback, so no video, for a playlist. I don't like it that I manually have to choose audio for every music video.
This is not helping parents who try to responsibly let their kids use smartphones. How do I turn videos off entirely for a minor? If I can't do that I will have to switch to another service such as tidal.
