Watch and Listen: Introducing music videos on Spotify

Watch and Listen: Introducing music videos on Spotify

Spotify knows that the listening experience is a way to connect artists with fans on many levels. But what if we could enhance these connections with a different perspective?

With this in mind, Spotify is introducing a new and powerful way to listen to your favorite songs: Music Videos.

This exciting new feature is being rolled out in Beta for Premium users across more than 90 countries worldwide. At this point, Music Videos is with a limited catalog, but it includes hits from local artists and global ones like Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, and Ariana Grande.

How to watch music videos on Spotify:

  • Music Videos is being rolled out in Beta for Premium users in some specific countries. This includes Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Philippines, Poland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Egypt and the United Kingdom.
  • Music Videos is available for Premium users on iOS, Android, desktop, and TV devices.
  • You can access it through the Now Playing View, when listening to supported music tracks. You just need to tap the “Switch to Video” toggle and the music video will start playing from the beginning. To head back to audio-only mode, tap on “Switch to Audio”.
  • You can watch the videos in either portrait or landscape modes, and it is also available for Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode.

Considering it's in Beta, Spotify will continue to improve the new feature based on feedback both from users and artists.

Currently, Spotify is working on ways to improve the experience of switching the playback from music to video and vice-versa, adopting a TimeSync transaction and this update is being released to the users gradually. There is also a 18+ content enforcement to prevent minors have access to explicit content.

I hope you are as excited as I am for this new way to enhance your connection with your favorite artists. For any feedback on the matter you may have, you are more than welcome to share it with us below on this thread.

You can find the latest updates on the topic in the official announcement from the Spotify Newsroom here.

Hey folks,

There's currently an issue with the Switch to video button not showing up on mobile devices that's being looked into. We'll keep everyone posted in this other thread here, check it out 👍

Cheers!

activar el control parental con eso evitas el contenido explicitó

You don't seem to understand the problem. We know of the possibility to turn of explicit videos.

We don't want our children to not se ANY videos, and want a function to turn all videos off. Only music.

YA ES LA QUINTA VEZ QUE TE DIGO QUE ESA FUNCIÓN NO SE PUEDE BLOQUEAR. SI NO TE GUSTA ANDATE A OTR PLATAFORMA CONO DEEZER QUE TIENE SOLO MÚSICA

Give me a way of disabling the video autoplay when I listen to music. I’m here for the music! Not videos. And I don’t want my kids to see any videos.

fijate  en configuración

no se puede

Hello everyone

i have a problem with this function

on my account it’s not visible to switch to music video but on other accounts on my family plan it is. How can I have the music videos becouse it’s not fair. Thank u for answer

Hay mucha gente de Argentina que tiene el mismo problema

Es importante añadir una opción para ver únicamente videos. Y no tener q elegirlo cada vez. Gracias

Ojalá que se agregue pronto en tv tocas una vez cambiar a video y listo

I do not like this! My 6-year old son listens to spotify because we thought it would be "safe".
Now, there is videos showing girls dancing sexy and barely clothes on!
And yes - it is set to not show explicit content!
Keep the feature if you want but PLEASE - let your users decide if they want to show videos or not!!

que raro ojala se solucione pronto

I don't have an issue with this feature, but personally I won't be using it. I like to put music on our TV, but am trying to avoid the screen being a distraction to my toddler. Personally I would really appreciate a feature allowing an audio Vs video preference default to my account. I hope this feedback is helpful

se puede cambiar con la opción cambiar a audio igual hay cosas peores

Agree, you have to keep switching to Video. Why not toggle to video and stay on Video, if there is no video for the next track in the queue, just display the cover art or visual equaliser graph.

Por ahora se puede en tv igual lo podes mencionar con @ y el nombre

Please Spotify, put a command or setting to disable the automatic play of videos. This is really annoying, and consume a lot of bytes. If I want videos, I must to manually switch to this feature.

I have the exact same issue. This is a bit frustrating and making me consider canceling the plan because it's really unfair
