My Question or Issue
I use for a few hours every day, yet my "Top Genres" are incorrect. They are somewhat more correct on my phone, yet still not 100%. According to Spotify, I listen to mostly indie, pop, hip hop, and dance/electronic, which I do not. I only listen to rock and metal genres, and I have almost never listened to any songs in the genres that are supposedly my top genres. I know for a fact that rock or metal is the genre I listen the most to, yet the list never changes. Is there a way to fix this? It's a very minor issue, but it's very annoying.
Hey @Grusfanatiker,
Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Community
For the 'Your top genres' section in your account as well as for the playlists in 'Made for You' to update according to your taste, you need to keep using Spotify and playing songs as well as artists which reflect such taste. You can give the algorithm a boost by following new artists and liking additional songs.
In addition, If you see any suspicious activity on your account or listening history that might be influencing the algorithm, we highly recommend following the steps provided in this support article.
Hope this helps. Keep us posted on how it goes.
Hey @Grusfanatiker,
Thanks for getting back to us.
Could you provide a screenshot of how your top genres look on both devices? Does the selection remain the same after a clean reinstall on the pc?
We would also still recommend that you follow the steps to secure you account, just in case. The Log out everywhere function in combination with a clean reinstall has the added benefit of resynching your info with our servers.
Let us know how you get on, we'll be on the lookout for your reply.
I have exactly the same problem (it's not a real problem, but annoying anyway).
Please, Spotify: Don't answer this "Is your account secure" and "Start listening to music.." BS.
I had similar problems a time ago with "favourite songs" some time ago, got the same random, useless advice and in the end it was something else, encountered by lots of other people too.
Hey @KettleBlack,
Thanks for the post.
Music recommendation is somethign that can't be manually influenced from Spotify's end. These recommendations are automatically generated, based on your listening activity and what is most popular with other users who listen to similar music.
A few things can influence your recommendations and Top genres/ artists etc.
Hope you find this info helpful.
This is NOT helpful and you know that.
Like the other member said: I have DIFFERENT Top Genres on DIFFERENT devices, some correct and some random. Im listening for YEARS.
Yeez....please don't answer if you are not willing to read. Better no answer thans this random, generic, insulting stuff. Who do you think we are?
Sorry, but I had to say this for once. I won't bother you any longer. Apart from these things, Spotify works fine and I'm quite content!
This top genre feature is buggy and the support is not interested in helping us, only giving obvious suggestions or false reasons why it's not working, I listen STRICTLY to jazz, classical music, and choro (19th century Brazilian music). My TOP GENRES shown are POP, ROCK, and HIP HOP. This sounds like pure contempt. Do you want your consumers, who pay for the music you provided, to feel offended and infuriated? For a company built around musical identity of consumers, you're simply catastrophic and it feels like a slap in the face. No wonder Joanna Newsom and many others deserted this music-hating company.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
