Can not play Spotify on Yamaha RX-A730 Receiver through USB connection

I can connect my iPhone or a memory stick to the USB connection on the front of the Yamaha receiver and play music on my phone or on the memory stick.  However, when I try to play songs from Spotify using the USB connection, I can see the album artwork and song on my TV, and I can see it is playing but I am getting no sound.  Has anyone experience this and found a solution?

 My receiver shows songs playing from Spotify through the USD port.  However, there is no souund.  I was told by a someone at Yamaha (who wasn't sure), that he thinks because the receiver is three years old it may not decode the file format of Spotify (this seems strange to me as I would think the audio should be decoded before it gets to the receiver).  However, I see there is a firmware support for Spotify Connect available.  My question is: will the firmware update support both wireless (Connect) and wired (USB)?
