Can't join jams with an invite link

My Question or Issue

When somebody starts a jam and sends me an invite link, I can’t join the jam using this link. The link just opens the main screen of the Spotify app, it doesn’t open the jam. Tried with different links sent to me by different people, tried with my own links, tried logging out and back in, tried reinstalling the app, tried rebooting, tried different combinations of the above. Nothing helps, links just don’t work.

I wanted to reply and say that if you have an ad-blocker it will interfere with the jam link for some reason. Maybe it's that!

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

 

Great initial troubleshooting! In this case, we'd like to gather some additional info. Would you mind opening a different account on your device and try creating a Jam? Give it a try and let us know if you notice any difference. You can ask for the account of a relative or a friend to open it on your device and check.

 

On another note, is this happening over WiFi? 3G/4G? Both? Do you notice any difference if you switch the internet connection you're using? Give it a try and let us know how it goes.
 

Lastly, it'd be awesome if you could send us a video recording, so we can continue investigating further. You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

My Question or Issue

I can not use Spotify Jams at all. Joining nor starting them works.

 

The "Start Jam" button in the Spotify Connect/devices menu does nothing. It has an animation, but nothing happens afterwards.

 

Joining a Jam via a link/QR code or through the local network doesn't work either.

When I tap on a Jam link, the Spotify app opens, but nothing happens. Not even an error is displayed.

Any Jams in the local network do not show up in the devices menu.

 

I have cleared my cache, cleared the app storage for the Spotify app, have reinstalled Spotify and have rebooted my device every time.

On another note, do you notice any difference if you switch the internet connection you're using? If possible, you can create a hotspot on your phone and connect to the mobile device with which you're trying to create a Jam to see how it goes.

I have attached two videos showing the issue. One is from my Android phone, the other one is from my iPad where I had no problems starting or joining Jams.

 

The issue has nothing to do with my network or account.

 

I previously tested if I could start and if I could join a Jam from a friends WiFi network as well as through mobile data. I had no success.

 

My account can't be the issue because I can join and start Jams on my iPad.

Thanks for the reply and the videos. Consider trying the following:

  1. Try these steps. They might not be exactly the same on your device, but it should work the same
  2. Check your device for any settings that may be blocking pop-ups, overlays or external notifications, this may be preventing it from working.

I tested all your steps. They didn't help.

 

There is an upcoming upgrade to Android 14 for my device though. I hope that it will help fix this issue.

Thanks for your prompt reply and for trying out our recommendations. 

 

As this seems to be device-related, we'd recommend asking a relative or friend to log in with their account on your device and check if they are able to start/join a Jam. On another note, if you maybe have an SD card on the device, close the app, remove the SD card, and without inserting it again check if that makes a difference.

 

Lastly, let us know the Spotify version you have installed.

Hi,

 

using a friend's account does not fix the issue. I also don't use a SD card.

 

I'm using Spotify v8.8.96.364.

I'm actually facing the same issue. Using a Pixel 6a with Calyx OS. I assume the issue could be OS related or has something to do with the Google Play Services.

@konnnnstantin, you mentioned an upcoming Android 14 update for your device. Have you had the chance to make the update yet? Now, we understand you are able to create and join the Jam from your iPad, but could you check if it works on a different Android device?

@felifluid , thanks for the info you provided. Let us know what troubleshooting steps you've tried so far, and check if this happens from a different device. You can borrow a relative or friend's device. Additionally, send over the exact OS version on your Pixel and the Spotify version you're running.

Thanks for sharing your findings.

 

Using an ad blocker does indeed interfere with the normal functioning of the app so we'd advise against it.

Indeed, jam links started working after I disabled my ad-blocking DNS. Thanks a lot!

On iOS 16: Settings → General → VPN, DNS, & Device Management → DNS → Select “Automatic”.

But it’s disabled by default, you can only disable it if you enabled it yourself. It’s not something that iOS does on its own.

I did all of these and nothing worked I open the link it takes me to the AppStore then at the AppStore I press open then it takes me to the main page of my Spotify and won't put me into the jam. If I open through a QR code it doesn't give me the option of listening on my device and it joins the jam on my friends device.

Could we also ask you to provide us with a screen recording of how the app interacts when trying to access the jam feature so we can see how the issue behaves in action?

 

Make sure your device`s Operating system is up to date, and also, please send us the version of Spotify which you are running.

Hi I have been having the same issue where it takes me back to App Store this might just be a Apple issue I’m not sure I am unable to send screen recording is there an email I can send it to?

Thanks for the reply. If the video files are too large to attach here, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.
