Downloading music from desktop to iPhone

Hey
I want to listen to music that isn't on Spotify so I downloaded the MP3 file online on my desktop and tried to sync a Spotify playlist to my iPhone but it isn't downloading or playing the music on my iPhone, but it does play on the desktop.
Help?

When I add the music onto a playlist after I have added a source and everything it just won't show up on my phone

Can you try moving the songs into a different folder on your computer and re-adding the source?
