Issue with Spotify Free Playback on iPhone SE (2nd Gen)

Hello,

I’m experiencing an issue with Spotify Free on my iPhone SE (2nd generation) running iOS 18.5. Unlike my dad’s iPhone 13 and iPad (both using the same Spotify Free account), my iPhone SE does not allow me to play liked songs on demand and instead forces shuffle or plays songs automatically.

I have tried updating iOS, reinstalling the app, clearing cache, logging out/in, and checking storage. Despite this, the problem persists only on my iPhone SE.

Could you please help resolve this or clarify why this device-specific limitation occurs?

Hey there!

Thanks for reaching out.


Just so you know, this is totally normal on the Free tier—you can only play your Liked Songs on shuffle and can’t pick individual songs to play. Also, free accounts work a bit differently between the desktop app and the web player.


You might want to check out the Pick and Play playlists too. With these, you can play any song you want, no shuffle needed! They include things like Discover Weekly, Daily Mix, Release Radar, and most of the playlists in the Made for You section (you’ll find that in Search).


And just a heads up, if you’re sharing the same account with your dad, Spotify accounts are meant for personal use only and can’t be transferred.

Hello thanks for your response, however I’m logged into the same account on my iPad a16 and works fine with the music I want it to play and same goes with my dad’s iPhone 13. But only my iPhone SE 2nd gen won’t play the song I want it to. It keeps asking me to upgrade. How come that’s not the same with all my other devices logged into the same account
