Joe Rogan Podcast only playing when phone is in Airplane.

Joe Rogan Podcast only playing when phone is in Airplane.

Operating System

iOS 14.3

My Question or Issue

As the title states, I can only get the Joe Rogan podcast to play consistently from download when the phone is in airplane mode. When out of airplane mode the download will play until I have to switch apps or answer a call. Then I have to switch back into airplane mode to get it to start playing again. Video for the podcast seems to be trying to stream while I’m listening audio only. This is infuriating. I’ve done the clean install thing and absolutely nothing changed. Additionally, twice now the app has simply lost all of my downloads. Idk if the app lost track of the library or what happened but I do know that around 20 podcasts were simply disappeared both times.

Hey @writefast

Thanks for posting - we’re here to help!

If you experience issues with your downloaded contents and they keep on disappearing from your offline library you might have encountered an ongoing issue that we're currently investigating. Check out this thread and add your vote by clicking on the +VOTE button. Make sure you follow the steps under Status Update as well.

It'll also be useful to Subscribe in the three-dots menu at the top right corner next to the title. That'll make sure you stay up-to-date with any relevant updates about this.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any questions.

The disappearing downloads is infrequent. The constant problem of only being able to consistently play the Rogan podcast in Airplane mode, a mode that kills your Bluetooth, WiFi, and cell connections, is the one that I would like fixed. It makes no sense that you offer downloads to play offline, which can then only be played online. 🙄

Hey @writefast,

Thanks for keeping in touch.

We recommend running a clean reinstall of the app by following these steps. This can be helpful to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.

If that doesn't make any difference, since the Offline Mode feature isn't available for free accounts, you can try turning data/cellular off for Spotify from your phone's settings, so you don't need to put your phone into Airplane mode to listen to the downloaded content.

We hope you find this info useful. If you have any questions, give us a shout.

🙄 seriously. Did you not even bother to read my initial question?
1) as I stated previously I have already done the clean reinstall.
2) as I stated previously I DO download the Joe Rogan podcast. I am using the free version but I have the option to download so I do which means even though I use the free version I am using an offline mode of some type.
3) as previously stated I DO LISTEN OFF LINE and that is the problem. I want to podcast to play consistently while my phone is ONLINE.
4) ok, so let me get this straight. Your solution is to turn my phone off so that I can listen to the podcast on my phone. Gee, why didn’t I think of that? Oh, wait, I DID. That is essentially what I’m doing now by putting the phone into airplane mode. That is the part that I’d like to get fixed, in case you missed it when you read my initial and previous response, which you obviously didn’t. 🙄

Hi @writefast

Thanks for getting back to us.

We're sorry to hear that you feel like this and we'd like to help you sort this out.

Could you confirm what exactly happens when you try to play the podcast with airplane mode off or after switching apps?

If possible, could you let us know if the same thing happens when you log into your account using a different mobile device?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
