Solved!

New player UI in some areas?? (Full screen album art/disappearing playback controls)

About a month ago I noticed Spotify made a change in the music player for their playlists. It looks different then the player we have in our personal playlists, saved songs, etc. This change makes the Spotify app very difficult and frustrating to use. In the below image, I compared the two side by side. In summery, the biggest issue is that the layout of the album art looks horrible as its stretched way too big/cut off, and the playback controls never stay on the screen (constantly hide). This makes the app very difficult to use, not to mention visually looking trashy.

I've opened a ticket about this with Spotify and they don't seem to understand what I'm talking about and instead sent me on the path of the usual troubleshooting, (reboot device, reinstall the app, etc) The thing is, this change is global. It happens on all of my devices (iPhone and iPad), and is not specific to my account (my friends see this too, and I was able to reproduce it on Spotify's "test account") I haven't seen anyone post about this yet so I figured I would take the lead.

Spotify, PLEASE GET RID OF THIS NEW UI! The old UI is much more usable and looks so much better!

Hey @Qwerty27_27, thanks for letting me know!

Spotify is testing new features now. Here's some more information about why you might be seeing different features.

https://support.spotify.com/using_spotify/system_settings/why-am-i-seeing-different-features-than-my...

To clearify that, a/b testing and install a Spotify beta app are not the same thing.

There is only limited percentage of users who have A/B tests on their accounts. Nevertheless, in this case, I will pass your feedback to the Spotify team.

And you may make a new account to see whether it has the A/B test or not. Then, if you want transfer all the music to new account, you can contact our support team for that.

Hope that helps 🙂

Hey @sdschramm,

This is expected the behaviour of the app 🙂 Spotify has enabled that 'new' layout for some of their playlists.

I'll make sure to pass your feedback onto Spotify about this 🙂

In the mean time is there anything I can do to revert it back to the normal player?

Unfortunately, it's not possible to do that.

What are you talking about? The new design is horrible! Name one good feature about the new design...

Hahahaha! Look at that better dude. The new design is so much cleaner. It's all that we need at this time 🙂

I agree looks much better! I'm not a fan of the small album art and all the excess/dead space around it

I love it.. I wish that is arrive everywhere (not only on playlist)

So instead you'd rather have stretched and cropped album art with playback controls that keep disappearing???

Yes. An option to disable the controls hiding would be nice to see but I think the older/current design is a bit dated. Even the new design is only a small step forward but at least it’s something.

How is the current design dated? What needs changed? It's already looks
fine and is very functional. Nothing needs changed.

I love the new UI

I understand your opinion. You like it the way it is and that’s fine. I think the new UI is more in the way of an immersive experience. Google released a concept for its Play Music service back in 2014/2015 that showed the potential of its Material Design guidelines. The player inherited colors from the currently playing songs artwork and used those colors to change the theme of the player to match.

Google never implemented this design which is too bad, I think their Play Music app now is downright terrible. But I think Spotify could use some of these subtle touches to improve on their UI and set it apart from the competition. All music apps work the same way and for the large part look the same as well.

Tldr; Why not be creative, break the traditional player UI and come up with something fresh and attractive to its users?

What are you talking about

Care to elaborate? This thread is about the new Spotify UI. That’s what we’re all talking about...

Full-screen

I also notice the new UI, worst thing is, I can't seem to edit a playlist (I do that even on pre-set playlist of Spotify), or can it be done in some way? Also, I notify the "behind lyrics" is not available anymore... so many changes and I seem to getting less out of the app now

So.. "behind lyrics" it's more important than a new redesign on app? Oh please.... xD

It’s all opinion, I like the new clean look
