New version 1.x is unusably slow (ios 7, iphone 5)

Solved!

New version 1.x is unusably slow (ios 7, iphone 5)

Update 4/24: New build 1.1.0.2549 seems to be available on the app store with an apology in the app description... I'm still testing it out but many users here report the problem is solved.

Update 4/20: User named Matt Suda (mod?) has posted in this thread to expect an app update this week. No official word.

Update 4/07-ish: Spotify support says they are aware of the problem and "looking into it."

Spotify just upgraded itself to the newest 1.0 version on my iPhone 5 (iOS 7.1). The update renders the app unusably slow. After using it for several hours I had to revert back to the Apple Music app. Things I noticed:

- After augmenting a playlist (deleting a track, for example), the app is unresponsive for ~5 second.

- Clicking "Share" from the new popup menu renders the app unresponsive for ~5 seconds, and then executes several actions all at once.

- The (REV, PLAY, FWD) controls from the lock screen are unresponsive after the first command. Tracks take about 5-10 seconds to switch, and if I keep pressing FWD, for example, the requests seem to be queued, executing over the next minute at random times.

- Scrolling becomes slow / unresponsive. I must wait 5-10 seconds for scrolling in any list to be re-enabled.

Usability-wise I am unimpressed with the new search / discovery feature. I found it difficult to view all albums by a particular artist. I have to search, then scroll down to Albums, and then click on Albums to view all of them. Maybe there were more albums listed in the previous version?

Anyone else having these issues? The app is basically unusable at this stage, so I'm using the built in Apple Music app. Tempted to unsubscribe until the issue is resolved.

It does not take a genius to reallise why everyone in this thread is so angry and threatening with subscription cancellations.

No this is not just because of the update. It's the respect (or lack thereof) that we, as paying customers, have received from the spotify team.

I'm certain that following this slight hiccup, if the Spotify development team (an actual member of the staff team) had just posted, and stickied, a post on this forum stating that they are at least aware of the bugs and are fixing them ASAP then everyone in here would relax.

People can wait quite a while for function to resume but what is not welcomed and causing anger is the lack of direct Spotify communication with their source of income.

I hope that they pull their heads out of the sand and realise just how vital customer communication is and that we hear directly from them soon

Same problems here since the new update with my iPhone 5c. Laggy and very slow!!! Sometimes he stops.

no need to describe the issues, other users have done so already.

I think Product Managers at Spotify are losing direction and are drifting away from what made spotify a success. first imposing "connect" and now this buggy update.

and the post mentioned as solution is not a solution.

Exact same problem here. Sometimes app works flawless, other times it is slow as hell.

Please test your updates before releasing them. If so many people are experiencing problems, this would've been easy to test.

Same problem on my ipod on iOS7... why Spotifiy doesnt officially react on this problem.

And roadmap for a fix and new update?

If your still having problems, and have a twitter account - I suggest you direct your issues at https://twitter.com/SpotifyCares

It seems to be the only medium that they acknowledge.

Just shy of that, leave an app store review with your comments.

To be honest, the iPhone platform isn't the only one that's getting slammed for interface/lag issues, so i wouldn't be suprised if another iteration comes out soon.

In the meantime.. back to Deezer.

You just lost a subscription. Thank you, Spotify, for making me lose this month. You should refund all of us.

I have the same problem on my iPod Touch! I updated Spotify to version 1.0.0 about 1 week ago, with iOS 7.1.. It's SO slow.. It takes 15 seconds to change song and it crashes ALOT. SO ANNOYING 😞

can i get some help ? why is it doing that? it used to work PERFECTLY before i updated to the new Spotify design.. 😞

I have Premium btw, and I refuse to pay for things that doesn't work!

sames here:

ios 7.1, check

iphone 4s, check

slow spotify when changing songs. check

reinstall, resync, turning off audio quotes (?), check

pissed off user that is trying to change song while running, check

Spotify, I don't need extra beautiful-shiny UI. All I need is responsive-fast application that I can rely on ;/

I'm having the same problem. It takes about 3 seconds to swipe between songs that have already downloaded into my iPhone 4. I feel like I'm being coerced into getting a faster device. There should be an option to use the earlier version that works for older devices smoothly!

Spotify devs could care less what kind of device you're on as long as you're using their service... And the lag is situational depending on how you use your phone I've seen a few 5s that can't even run I'm on a 5 and have very little trouble.... But honestly posting here isn't going to change anything I need to unsubscribe I've been getting 50 emails a day from this haha sit tight and either deal with it and wait it out or change service rly the only 2 options that exist

This update has rendered use of this $10/month service into quite the displeasurable experience. Restarting the app every 3-6 songs due to slow and unresponsive controls is somewhat of a living hell. I can remember years ago skipping between songs using a Sony Walkman cassette player's fast-forward button being a more consistent, predictable method of enjoying music.

I'm sure it goes without saying, but please fix this. I don't really want to pay money to fight with software.

Everyone, tweet to @SpotifyCares - had a "we're on it' answer within minutes. Apply some pressure!

a **bleep**storm on their twitter would maybe help sending a wakeup call to their lazy CEO's

just because someone is unique, it doesn't mean he's useful...

New update is out. I'm happy to say that so far the app is responsive. It's now usable for me.

Still, poor communication from Spotify. Actually it's more like NO communication. no official response.

For this reason, I will still switch. I take the lack of communication as irresponsible. I don't deal with irresponsible company.

Spotify is now on my blacklist.

*edit* spoke too soon. After about an hour later the delay came back. 15-30 seconds to switch between song, etc.

*edit2* my bad. There was no new update. I mistakenly viewed my unsuccessful rollback as an update. Sorry guys..

What version is the new update you speak off? Can't see it in App Store yet.

I'm mistaken. There was no new update.

The bug fix update (version 1.1) should be out this week hopefully (week of April 20-26)

Just my best guess, no promises

Matt are you a dev / mod / official here? I added your comment to the original post.

Nope, red named people on the Community do not work for Spotify. However that being said, Matt is one of the longest running Community Super Users so experience can teach us a lot!

Although skeptical, I would agree with Matt's prediction too. 😛
