Online mode while songs marked for offlne

I've been wondering about this.  If I have all my music marked for offline playback, but Spotify is in online mode.  Am I still using my data lines whether it be wifi or 4g?

I been searching but cant find this answer.

Does anyone know?

Theoretically, it shouldn't use your data for the streaming itself, although there may be other ways the app uses data, such as relaying to the Spotify servers what you're listening to at a particular time. Besides that, there have been reports floating around suggesting that some extra data is still used by Spotify regardless. All that said, the best bet to avoid data usage is to put the app itself in offline mode in the settings.
