Pausing music whenever phone goes to sleep or too the lock screen

Whats the deal? About four days ago, Spotify began pausing music on my iPhone X as soon as the phone either goes to sleep or enters lock mode. I haven't made any changes to the settings and this doesn't seem to be happening to any other apps.
