My Question or Issue

Ever since I updated iOS Friday, whenever I open other apps like games or shopping while I’m playing Spotify, playback stops within a minute. If I go to the controls, it’s on pause and when I unpause it, it only lasts for seconds before it stops again. Never had this issue before updating. Already had the most recent Spotify app.

Thanks for reaching out.

 

If your music is pausing when the app is not in focus, we'd recommend making sure that Background app refresh is enabled for the Spotify app in your phone's settings. It's also a good idea to check if the same happens when you use the web player instead of the app.

whenever i exit spotify and go on other apps (instagram,whatsapp,mobile games etc) the music keeps stopping and i have to manually play it back. When i resume the song, u can hear it for probably 10 seconds then it stops again and it keeps going like that and im getting madder and madder each time so i just stop using spotify . I also restarted both the app and my phone and nothing seems to help.

This has annoyed me for years: If I'm playing audio from another app and open Spotify, it stops the other audio. That feels so aggressive. I might be opening Spotify just to grab a link or look something up, not play music. Please stop doing this, thanks.

We'd recommend checking if disabling the affected app in question's access to the microphone stops this behavior, as well as going to your device's accessibility settings to make sure the app that is pausing the playback or being paused is added there. The steps may vary a bit, but should be something in the means of:

  1. Go to Settings -> Accessibility.
  2. At the bottom, tap Per App Settings.
  3. Tap Add App and select the app that is affected.
  4. Once added, tap that app in the list and look for options like "Autoplay Video Previews" and disable it.

It's also worth following @MihailY's suggestion about enabling Background app refresh and testing this out with different devices to see if the issue persists. Another thing you could try is performing a clean reinstall of the app to make sure any damaged cache is removed and that your app's up-to-date.

Same issue, iPhone 15 max, any app, lockscreen or otherwise leaving the spotify app(latest update installed)
