Please explain how local files on IOS app works

I am trying to understand the local files folder in the iphone app. I have a few thousand songs downloaded to spotify and have one folder from itunes with a few hundred songs. My local files folder has 32 songs which appear to be mostly from spotify, not from my itunes folder.  Greatly appreciate an explanation.

My music doesn't work with local files unless they're matched to tracks in the spotify database. To listen to your local files on iphone, just follow the steps here.

thanks. I'm not interested in playing non spotify files. There is a default playlist on the iphone app called "local files" that I cannot determine where they come from as I have a few thousdand tracks and this folder says 32 songs.  thanks again.
